Vss Location?

Right, my brand new VSS has just arrived, so very soon I'll actually have a working speedo on my GTI-6 powered 205! :)

Problem is, I can't find where the sensor is supposed to go, let alone what I have to remove to fit it, etc. I was told that it was a fairly easy job to swap out, but it is just a bit of a problem when I can't find it in the first place!

I know it is on the gearbox somewhere, and from further reading here, is by the flywheel, but I'm still not having much luck finding anything that looks similar. Does anyone have a picture (or a good description!) on hand?

Thanks

Josh

Gearbox end of the speedo cable.

Edit.

Re read your post, guess the cables not connected then. :)

If you stand infront of your car and look over the back of the head on the end with vacuum pump its down there just to the left of the diff

has to be fitted or the oil will leak out, the drive that is.

But it's on the end of the Diff housing sticking out behind the block

I'll have another run at it tomorrow.

With the amount of hoses it looks like I'll have to take off, it isn't going to be the easy drop in job I want hoping for!

Thanks Guys

no need to remove any hoses, you can get at it from underneath easily enough.

Not as easy as it could be with a face full of diff! I found it (atleast, I think I have!), But gave up in the end (It started raining!)

I'm going to ask if I can do it on one of the ramps at work. Silly question, but what exactly holds it in place?

one M6 (7?) bolt and friction from an o-ring.
