Newly Powder Coated Wheels

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have just had a set of Speedlines powder coated silver and lacquered.

Should I be treating them in any way with a polish or one of the specialist alloy wheel protecting sprays from Halfords or similar?

I was thinking of putting a couple of coats of ordinary car polish on, is this a good idea?

Ordinary car polish wont do much in the way of protecting your wheels once they're in use.

I've applied about three layers of this to mine

It's very hardwearing to cope with the high temps of brake dust and the elements.

I couldn't tell you how well it does the job as mine are still not fitted.

I paid about £10 at my local motor factors for it.

Well worth it, smells like bubblegum you know!

i must admit, waxing the rim sounds a bit dodgey.

I hear there are wheelbra's available.. that elastically stretch over the rims to protect them from dirt and kerbs.

it's a Eurodub thing. :)

When i first had my wheels powder coated i gave them a few coats of spray on wax and after a few weeks when i went to clean them all the brake dist just flew off :) and they were spotless again. Alas, as time went on i became less enthused with keeping them so clean and gave up waxing them, now they're a pain in the arse to get shiny white again.

Iv used poorboys alloy protector, its good stuff and also smells of bubble gum and should be cheaper than £14.

I put 4 coats on my SL434's and the dirt, brake dust just wipes of with a finger, well worth putting a few coats on

to get the best protection TBH.

I found an Auto Express review which said the Auto Glym stuff was the best, not what I expected.

I think I will order the Autoglym stuff, I will report back, not that I have anything to compare it too.

I've used silver colour magic in ours, makes the wheels easier to wash and the brake dust don't stick to the wheels as much. I did the insides of the wheels as well so most of the dirt just wipes off with some blue paper towel.
