done a search of all the years for this topic and came up with a few conflickting ideas, im doing an mi16 convertion and have made the wiring loom out of the 8v and 16 v looms, but now desided to put twin 45s on it instead. the question is can i run them on this loom or do i start again or do i get a megajolt and make a loom up for one of these as it seems that on a 8v distrubutor you cant get anough advance. dont know whats the best option can anyone enlighten me thanks

Chances are it would run better on an ignition only ecu rather than a distributor. This does bring more costs the conversion though!.

Iam using an 8v dizzy on my mi16 with 45's and it produces quite decent power.Although i imagine an ignition only setup to control the spark would be better really, i just chopped out all the fuel injection side of the loom to make things neater.I was wondering myself how much difference the likes of megajolt would make to the performance, think few people on here have had their dizzys reweighted to suit the mi motor better.

What do you mean by: "think few people on here have had their dizzys reweighted to suit the mi motor better."

Is that a DIY job? and if so...how is it done?

Not a DIY job really no, and IMO it's the only way to do it, if you're going to bother using the 8v management on an Mi.

Try someone like H&H.

I have been blocking the vacum pipe on the dizzy. Will I need the dizzy to be reweighted ?

Cheers

I would. I presume you've at least had the rev limit removed from the 8v ecu if you're running it too?

My s16 runs a standard 8v dizzy and made 180hp and feels to have plenty of pull in low revs. Not too bad mpg on a run either, the timing looks to have plenty of advance. I dont use the dizzy vac advance as the vacuum would be all over the shop from one manifold runner.Imo i would go megajolt instead of having the dizzy fettled.

I dont use the dizzy advance either as SKip Brown dont on their carb conversions either, thats what they told me.Would it give any increase in HP getting the dizzy reweighted.

Damn right, given the choice i'd never go backwards and run the 8v crap at all.

Hence my old 309 ran proper Mi management with it's carbs, i don't know why people don't do it this way more often tbh, and why the 8v setup was ever thought of as a solution at all!
