My old 1.6 was broken into by ramming a screw driver down the side of the door lock and simply pushing up the arm that the key works, a total pro job as i didnt even notice the car had been broken into when i got into it the next day as they locked the doors again, goodbye stereo, phone chargers, tools, jacket and 2 pairs of Oakleys, door was total freaked but left it that way for months as i never left anything in the car again..

my money is on a flashing light

Hi there,

Theres pros and cons to all situations but i guess the more you do to prevent the situation happening the better. I used to be a Autoelectrician and recently fit a Clifford Advantguard alarm with dual point immobilisation and blackjax! Even if they take the keys then they have to enter a personal code to carry on driving the car. It has a highly visible bright blue LED which also helps too!! It also features a dual zone prox sensor so alerts if someone goes too near!!! Maybe worth a try if your after top notch alarm with optional toys including remote start for cold winter mornings!!! Good luck!!!

Could also de-lock the doors to stop thieves with screwdrivers prying out your locks!!! Talking from experience costs about £120 and looks great I think-just leave the boot lock on just in case doors knack up!!!

This is all actually pretty depressing considering you can break into a 205 very easily causing no damage within a minute or so anyway, stupid pikeys!

Agreed, its so stupid simple its unbelievable its not known about that much!

de-locking wont do a thing, as they will just pull the top of the door, most pikeys take that approach first of all.

Mine was stolen a few months ago, they obviously had fun it because there was no clutch left and the handbrake cables where stretched to buggary. The tyre was also flat and the was a load of grass stuck in the towing eye. I take the steering wheel off every night now.

Oh really? Mine was a target of attempted theft twice in a week... As Miles will testify, the door was proper fcuked.

Hmm! I am surprised and stand corrected. Were they trying to steal the car or steal stuff from the car? It's a sh1te state of affairs either way.

I'll slightly amend my point - it's not attracting the professional thief, your pictures demonstrate that nicely. But if it has a modern immobiliser, properly installed I don't see how anyone could do anything other than damage it. Don't say 'tow it' because we aren't talking professional thieves here.

Once you've removed the ability for it to move anywhere you are still left with the problem that some little ballsack can still vandalise it, either trying to move it somewhere, trying to nick something from it or just vandalising because that's what little ballsacks do. Immobilising it further either through gearbox locks, steering wheel locks etc. still doesn't stop the problem of the little ballsack having a go.

I'm annoyed about the fact you can't own anything nice in this country without someone damaging it, but I dont know how you stop it.

Mine was local joyriders/content thieves without a doubt. No professional thief would be after a 205 (towing safe then) but little scrotes like to blat them about and generally fcuk up all your hard work.

If I ever catch them, they can consider a good fisting incoming...

Both of mine have battle scars from being broken into, and neither of them are even GTi's! (Although most people are so thick they think a GT is a GTi) im planning on a fuel pump switch, a big flashing light, using the origional 306S16 immobiliser, and window tints for my XS. Ill probs also tint the windows, and de-lock it, but thats more of an asthetic thing for me!

Great response guys! got me thinking.

I've heard a lot (not just in this thread) about the old bent door framw trick, What's the point of this?

Is it to reach in and just use the inside handle to open the door

If so I take it deadlocks are a good way to over come this?

nope, even removing the pins totally wont stop them trying, as they don't check before pulling the top of the door out

I had my nicked (nearly) from behind the corner about 1 am and found the car at 8 am 50 metres down the road.

They tried to start - couldn't start it even though it was turning over. Obviously broke the ignition before.

I had to put extra wire for the turbo diesel injection pump as I couldn't be bothered how to do it properly.

It looked like s*it (that's why I liked it)

The best bit was when the council guy turned up and said it causes problems because of its broken window and ask me to move it.

I don't really know why I am writing this but I feel better.
