While The Gearbox Is Off.

The clutch was slipping on the car so whilst replacing the clutch what would others recommend changing at the same time. I believe it is a be3 on a K reg 1.9 gti.

I'm also doing gearbox oil, but not sure about seals or if there is any internal maintenace i can do. I find the gearbox doesn't go in with a satisfying clunk or is this just peugeots? not driven very many. It doesn't jump out of gear at all.

I'm running megasquirt ms2 v3 with EDIS, should i ditch the edis and triggerwheel and use a later flywheel for timing and control coil pack through the ms2??

i would always replace the driveshaft oil seals

is there any oil type resiodue in the bell housing?

if so i would recomend replacing the input shaft oil seal

you could also replace the 2 plastic bushes that the bearing arm sits in

Sounds like good advice. There was no oil in the bell housing, that looked ok, just a load of dirt. Are all these available from gsf, only i couldn't even find a clutch kit from there when i looked.

What make of clutch is best?? opinions please, nothing special just decent standard

their website is Poo, they do have clutches and driveshaft seals, often in stock :D

the megasquirt would only work if you ditched the EDIS and triggered directly from the ECU as the trigger pattern is not compatible (60-2, rather than 36-1) but IMO its worth going for that as its a neater solution, I'm not certain but you may need to add a pair of ignition drivers to allow this if theyre not already installed.

you have the choice of using a later 1.9 Motronic / XU7 flywheel and sticking with the 8 valve 200mm clutch, or going for an Mi16/XU10 215mm flywheel and 1.9 MI16 clutch assembly, personally on the 8v I'd stick to the 200mm unit, its lighter

not sure what you mean by a "satisfying clunk" they aren't a sequential gearbox  IMO the BE is one of the nicest shifts out there.

Spondoli, i'll sort some payment for the diff seals if you don't mind, thanks very much Baz

No defo not a sequential box, lol. It just feels like its missing that clunk when the gear slips in, if you know what i mean. There is no hmmm, well clunk.

I was thinking of ditching the EDIS, which was why i said it. Will think a little harder about the ignition side of things.

Thanks for all your helps

Whilst in bits I'd get a flywheel with the timing teeth on. Even if you don't decide to change over now, at least if you ever decide to, all you need to do is bolt the sensor into the top of the gearbox as the flywheel is already there.

if you change the little plastic bushes be certain you get the right colour, there's white and yellow, they have different offsets, fit the wrong ones and you'll be taking the box off again in a few weeks time!
