Running Fail

Recommended Posts

eck_johnston

Hopefully some help can be offered...

My 1.6 had a bit of a fail yesterday, as it all but stopped running.

Had been running ok, then having been parked for a wee bit, would start then run for a few before dieing a coughing and spluttering death.

i thought it was out of petrol, but it wasn't (shoved a few litres in from a can), but there definitely seems to be a fuelling issue.

spraying carb cleaner into the air filter makes it run properly, revving freely etc, but as soon as the spray is stopped the engine coughs to a stop.

having gone through a few things, it stays running (just) when the afm is unplugged and the idle speed is cranked up, but obviously very roughly (just enough to get me a few miles home).

the idle has been rather lumpy of late which makes me think it's just a dieing/dead/shonky afm.

any thoughts?

also, i can't post a wanted ad (not enough posts), but does anyone have a working and unused 1.6 afm that they fancy getting rid of?

cheers

there arent all that many things it could be along the lines fo fueling. make sure the blue ecu plug is connected properly as this can also make the car over fuel.

could be a blocked injector, a dirty fuel filter, FPR problem, dieing fuelpump, AFM (as mentioned).

there is no chance of getting an unused 1.6 afm tbh! however a working one will come your way very fast (all you need to do is message Goliath aka George, he most likely has 3 or 4 he could put his hands on)

cheers,

i had wondered about the various other fuelling components - they are on the list of potentials.

well spotted too - i maybe gave the impression i was after a new unit, but i meant not in use rather than new!

(if there are any any as new ones though....)

*edit

tom,

would you be willing to post it to edinburgh?
