Mi16 Cambelt

I have made some timing pins to lock the camshaft sprockets on my Mi to change

the cambelt, water pump and tensioners. On the Mi there does not appear to be a

hole in the crank shaft pully for the locating pin, should I buy an 8v one for the job?

Can it be left on or do I have to use the 16v one? Does it locate on a key? How do

you lock the crank without an 8v pulley? Do you have to use a flywheel locking tool?

6mm drill bit through a hole in the block behind the starter to locate in the back of the flywheel if I remember correctly. Been a while since I done an MI.

there should be a hole in the crank pulley, but it's angled. if someone has replaced the alternator pulley, they may have covered it with one without the hole, try removing the alternator pulley and the slot should be behind that. It won't be a hole but you'll see where the 6mm thing can locate.

Great,

spotted the 6mm hole at an angle in the pulley but was unsure as to what it was supposed to

line up with. Will take the aux pulley off first and check behind it. Is the aux pulley keyed or

doweled onto the cambelt drive pulley? I take it you remove the small bolts around the

periphery of the main crank bolt to remove the aux drive pulley?

16V is EXACTLY the same as 8V. An 8mm rod through the harmonic balancer and into the block.
