What Front Springs?

Recommended Posts

Galifrey

So, got my car back now and have some Xsara VTS front struts (with springs).

The car is nose down slightly on the standard springs, so what springs should I use in conjunction with the Xsara struts?

Stock 205 or Xsara VTS?

Input greatly appreciated

if you have the springs you might as well try the full xsara setup though i'd expect it to sit higher.

I do need it to sit higher than it is, just wouldn't want it higher than stock.

Anyone tried them with a GTI-6 engine?

309 springs? Just thinking that the 309's heavier anyway, and they're slightly harder than the 205 ones.

I would expect standard Xsara VTS springs to make a 205 look like it's on stilts frankly! A 205 GTi with a GTi-6 engine is still significantly lighter than a 306/Xsara with the same engine.

Certainly I tried a set of 306 lowering springs on my 205 once when I was trying to find some higher poundage springs cheaply for standard (ie non-coilover) struts, and even they still sat noticeably higher than standard! I've got the pictures somewhere, but it was a distinctly comedy-like stance...

As Baz said, 309 GTi springs might be the answer here if you're looking for standard ride height, as they're normally a touch higher than 205 GTi springs and should hence sit about right with a lump of iron installed in the nose...

Until i did my conversion i thought my front suspension would be a lot lower with the v6 engine and gearbox in, but it seems to only be 10mm lower.

The Xsara VTS springs do lower a standard 306 Gti6 by around 20mm , but in a 205 Gti6 i would say that drop would be negated.

Im tempted with some aftermarket -50/60mm 306 springs. Decent quality to give plenty of poundage over the 309 items.

Did the xsara strut fit? I hear they all have issues with the droplinks?
