Help With Fueling Problem.

Recommended Posts

VDU

I have a 1.6 GTI, 1992

The car will start from cold and run as normal, when it gets hot it will try and stall at low revs, like when engaging the clutch to stop at the lights etc. If i manage to keep it from stalling the car will splutter and backfire as i pull off and accelerate. However when i get the revs and speed up it moves along no probs. Im under the impression its overfueling due to a faulty temp sensor. I checked the coolant fluid and i defo have a leak, after filling this up i bled the system thinking this would cue the problem, no joy. Would this knacker any sensors if it had been run with very little or no coolant, i have never had any overheating issues tho.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have checked many of the exsisting posts, some have similar symptoms but i have a long list of possibilities.

Could be a lot of things but here's a few things you can check

SAD (suplimentry air device) Bench test it by connecting it to a battery. It should close in about 5-10 mins.

I could just need cleaning out.

Check for any air leaks.

Send your injectors off for cleaning. It's about £50 next day service.

Is the vaccume advance on the dizzy working?

Have you got the ECU temp sensor/Reverse light/and SAD connector plugged in the right ones, all same connector (easy mistake I've done it)

Like I said could be many things, chances are it will be something or nothing.

Hey thanks for the reply Alex, turned out it was the dizzy cap and rotor arm, replaced em both and seems to be running fine now.
