So we fired the car up today.....................

Literary :P

She smoked the wiring at the Shunt Box,

Has anyone got pics of how the wiring should be connected,

The wire that burnt out is 1 going to a grey plug?

I'm on the laptop now but will load up pics later

Oh the joy lol

grey plug sounds you have fitted the Fan wiring into the wrong place, there is a grey plug halfway along its loom.

unplug that and rectify any damage there is and try again!

"Nail on head" Welshpug,

Got her all sorted now

The wires for the fan that come down the P/S inner wing loom were connected to the shunt box,

instead of going into the loom from the fan motor !! This fry'd the earth wire going to the front panel

and a few other wires beside it !!

The brown wire that comes out of the engine loom runs across and in to the shunt box,

I had this one pluged into the fan motor loom lol

Because both plugs are the same shape and colour they were easy to mix up, so its peugeots fault

After the wiring was sorted we got her started and let it run, no leaks and no bad sounds so today wasnt all bad,

Was good to hear it running again

I havent had a chance to update this for a while,

The engine, box and front suspension are all finished now so I moved onto the bodywork,

The new bonnet is painted and I through a coat of paint over the wings,

There were a few surface rust spots on the doors and at the top of the quarters so I ended up painting the 2 doors,

I just have the 2 quarters to paint, It's a bit of a ballbuster having to paint it 1 panel at a time as the compressor would struggle

and I dont have the room to get round both sides a once,

Should have the painting finished for wed/thurs then a good flat and buff, build her up over the weekend then get her out for a bit of testing,

Now a few update pics

Got a wee bit more done over the weekend,

Both quarter panels now painted,

Just to do the lower part below the mouldings + the rear bumper and thats all the painting finished ,

I gave the N/S panels a flat and a buff, the O/S is still too soft so I replaced the CV boot that I bust and fitted new rear shoes,

After talking to a few people at the sprint last week it turns out I needed to move the battery back into the engine bay

so after a bit of rewiring its back up front and the homemade airbox/heat shield I was working on is now in the bin lol

Few more pics

Well Bud hows things down your way?

We hope to have it out for the 1st week in April for a bit of a test & shake down,

Then a Sprint on the 17th April, the Hills start in May and there are 11 this year,

There are a few new ones added this year so looking forward to it.

If you have rear seats I'd be happy to take them PM your number and I'll give you a bell,

I may be down in Monaghan on Easter Sunday for the Circuit of Ireland so could meet up if you are about

You going to get it MoT'd or run in the modified class to start off with? Haven't made my mind up yet. Suppose should just go for an MoT asap and see. If Tom's SD1 is MoT'd then ours should be easy!!!

Like the paintwork.

I'm after a wiper relay and a bonnet if you know of any.

^ White Bonnet in Holywood for a tenner!! thats as close to you as I could get lol ^

I think I will MOT it and put the V5 in my Da's name so I can drive it on the road on my insurance under 3rd party cover,

The plan was to go into the old Class 6, I think its now called Roadgoing Class 1 up to 1700 2WD,

I dont mind the changes like rear seats + trims and move the battery back up front, but was told I would have to take the plumbed in system out !!

Amazing about the bonnet!! Thanks! I'm in Holywood tomorrow night anyway.

Hadn't heard about the battery having to be in the engine bay.

Apparently we need gloves for this season too.

Got 2 sets of back seats if you're stuck.

Good man, I've been looking rear seats for ages and 2 sets pop up on the same night lol

I've got your number so will give you a bell.

Yeah Tom said about the battery and plumbed in system needing to be moved, tho the blue book recommend them !! K.3.1.2(a)

It also says " All working equipment fitted as standard (heater, window mechanisms, SUNROOF, door handles) must remain operable at all times lol

Dont think I'll be putting a glass roof back in,

Well done on getting 4th, I see you have changed the car since I was last down, I'll have a look and see if any of our new Hills are down your way,

Tho I think they are all well into the north, I have a number for a fella from near you who does both North & South championships, I'll dig it out and pass it on,

Would be worth chattin to him about events near you.

Well got a few more bits done over the weekend, the interior looked a bit tatty so pulled it out and painted the floor,

Went for black this time as the white marked too easy,

The paint on the D/S panels was hard enough to flat and buff so got that done as well,

The arms were hanging off me on sunday night as it took a fair bit of flattin due to the paint sinking around the repairs

and a lot of dirt blew out around the petrol filler neck on the quarter,

Some snaps for the picwhoers :)

Cheers Bud,

I see you got a bit of paint on yours, Tis nice to get a bit of colour back on them,

I flatted it with 2000 and loads of soapy water, just started off denibbing the dirt first, then flatted the rest of the panel,

Then buffed it back up with 3M FastCut, took 2/3 goes with the buff working in sections,

It was then finished with a softer buff head and 3M Finesse, took all day Sunday just to do the D/S and bootlid !!

Yet more buffing tonight, got started into the last panel, the bonnet

This had the most dirt so left it to the end, flatted the dirt first then the rest of the panel

Buffed up and just needs 1 more go tomorrow, that's the paint work finished so just need to build it back up

1st Flat you can see the orange peel effect

300320101057.jpg

2nd Flat with less orange peel effect

300320101059.jpg

2nd Flat different angle

300320101061.jpg

Buffed up with 3m Fast Cut, needs another go over

Yeah spectators are at all the hills and as the cars come down in convoy you can walk up to the next view point,

Benbradagh is a good hill as you can see about 75% of it from one spot,

Practice runs start at about 10.00 then a break, timed runs start at around 1.00

The paddock/pits are on the road before the start line so you will have a fair walk, but you will get to see all the cars close up,

Here is a link so you can find the hill,

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sour...,78.14,,0,-1.98

All being well we should be at this one

The wee car is near there but I think we will miss this Saturday,

Just waiting on a few more bits, they should be here by Friday but not enough time to get them fitted

then we still have to run the engine in,

Got the interior lights trims and bumpers fitted so it looks like a car again lol

Thanks to Simonj for the rear seats

If I'm not working on the car on Saturday I'll be up at Benbradagh for a wee look

Are you headin up David?
