Big End Shells From A Diesel ?

I have had my crank reground 0.3 which hasnt cleaned up the damage ,Dave Knight who is doing the rebuild has told me that he can only get o.3 shells but I have been told else where that diesel shells fit and they go all the way to 0.8 oversize anybody got any ideas ?

Yes they can be used, however the running clearances are different on the diesel rods so you need a machinist who knows what he is doing to get the crank sized correctly.

 

However keep looking for 0.5 as they are out there.

i'm running diesel shells since a long time without regrinding the crankshaft... no problems at all. the slightly bigger clearance leads to minimal lighter oil pressure at idle, nothing else.

 

i also trashed an engine with this bearings for several years, including hard accelerations at with cold oil, the engine already had 180tkm on the clock and checked them afterwards, no signs of wear. use turbodiesel ones (xud9te) and it'll be fine!

 

they cost slightly more but are much better.

Have a look over on 306gti6.com. There's a member on there (rich_w, the guy responsible for the lynx supercharger kits for the 306) who sells uprated bearings in standard and undersizes, .5 included, for £115 for a full set of mains and big ends.

 

[edit] In fact I believe Miles from here does them as well. Try dropping him a PM :blink:.

jep, it will work. a mate is driving this combination in his engine. mi and 8v are similar

Im sure longmans do .5 oversize shells. Thats probably where rich_w gets them from.
