Core Plug Location

Recommended Posts

Tommer

Hi all,

not been around for a while since moving house and the pug going into storage.

anyway got around to spending some time and effort on her now, and i have a major leak coming from the back of the engine lower down, I can't quite see where it is coming from. I am hoping it is just a core plug that has popped out and not a cracked block. engine must have frozen in the snow we had earlier in the year :(

I'm finding it quite hard to find any info on the location of core plugs, and wondered if anyone had any pics of the locations?

I believe its the XU engine, car is a G reg 1.9 gti

any help appreciated

cheers!

most likely to be the water distribution housing above the driveshaft intermediate bearing carrier/lower engine mounting, there's an o-ring between it and the engine block, 3 hoses attached, and a drain plug in the end of the housing with a copper washer.

the only core plug I can remember on the alloy block is on the transmission end of the block, as well as 2 threaded in plugs one either end.

There are no core plugs as its a wet liner block.

You need to get under and find where its coming from. Chances are its either the water pump or the water housing on the back of the block.
