Rad Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Jackman

I'm looking to upgrade the rad on my Rallye while the engine is out!

What options do i have?

I was told the diesel rad is bigger? Much work involved?

What about alloy options?

Thanks

The TD rad's are thicker.

Although tbh not sure why you'd need to go any bigger than std tbh.

the Nissens rads are alloy, and very good. ;)

Where can i get the nissens ones from mate?

I'll be running a few extra mods next year, so just wanted to be on the safe side, but i've never had a temp gauge fitted so don't know how hot the 16v actually gets!

Some GSF's stock them, but seems to be random.

Maldon Auto Panels stick them i know, but not sure how far they deliver to.

More mods? Wasted effort, you still won't get away from me in my std 1.6 8v... :D;)

GSF still do them at £54 on their website, I got one from GSF for about £42 3 years ago, they are slowly creeping up.

I think the top hose comes off at a different angle, and there isn't a level sender in right hand end of the rad.

The hoses won't be a problem as i'm having custom silicone hoses made up!

Jackman, I was in the same predicament a while ago and ended up buying an alloy cored rad from here

Probably not upto the same standard as nissens or valeo but it does a good job of cooling my engine. I can't see a tu5 running as hot as a gti-6 lump either!

He probably thought you said Nissan

I asked for a 1.6 GTi Rad

He said £65

I asked if he did a Nissens ally rad.

and he said our rads are ally cored.

I got confused and set bye!

No they aren't, You will need a different radiator fan cowl afaik because the UK Rallye uses the same one as fitted to the XS & base models which is narrower than the GTI one & has a different expansion tank / bottle.

Top hose is different between the two but I don't think it'll be a problem because the rad top inlet is a similar angle & size iirc.

Graham.
