Help! Oil Leak!

Recommended Posts

Guest ASH83W

Hi newbie here! :D

Recently bought myself a 1.6 205 Gti for a bit of fun. Its in excellent condition and has had a fair amount of money already spent on it. My intention is to get everything right on it to make it a reliable motor. The thing is I fix one problem then find another! Its endless!

My latest problem is an oil leak from the o/s driveshaft, where the shaft enters the gearbox. Its leaking quite badly now. Is this a big job? I take it, it just needs the driveshaft taking out and a seal replacing? Is there anything I should be aware of?

Many Thanks in advance!

Just make sure you buy the correct oil to fill up again with. My advice is do both seals at once, drain the box first and use genuine pug box oil or total BV. PS while your under there check the gear linkage points are tight on the subframe and replace any worn linkage bars as they arent too expensive. Also maybe pop a BBM bush in the bottom mount while the O/S shaft is out. Makes a good difference IMHO.

PS, welcome to the boards.

No seals can be had quite easily but dealers arent usually more than a £1 more per side and OE is best. You will need 2 litres for a refill.
