Hello All,

I've been driving my 205 gti6 for about 2 years now as a daily runner, i've slowly been stock piling (sp) parts and now's the time to pull my finger out and start fitting some bits!

(Just got myself a 28 day ban for being caught at 108mph :) so I've got a month of cold nights in my garage!

Parts I have to fit:

Nissans Rad - Will I need new brackets or frame to fix this in?

Cam covers - RTV sealent on the way!

Inlet Manifold - Questions on injector fitting and which type of gasket

Twin Fan Setup

Fuel Filter - Would like to re-position it away from the manifold!

Ph2 Rear Bumper

Battery box - Move to boot or behind seat

Single Wiper Conversion

Black Sunstrip

SD Weld in cage

Buckets + Harness

Oil Catch Tank

Im sure there's more...

I'm going to start work in the evening on taking the front end off, I will then be trying to fit the new rad and the twin fan setup.

I will post some picture's with lots of question's  once I've taken it to bits.

If anyone has any pointers etc that would be great :)

oz.

If the Nissens rad is a 205 one then it'll fit straight on otherwise it might need some jiggery pokery

First question:

On the twin fan setup you have 2 plug's:

One connects to where it was originally pluged in, Where should the other connect to? Will there be a spare plug on the loom? (If so I cant find it)

Cheers,

Neil

That lot will keep you busy! I am about to move the battery to the back of my car as well. I am going to use 25mm cable from this place, VWP. I am also going to using a BMW battery distribution block under the bonnet so that I can still get to the battery points quickly up front. I think it will do the trick, I got the idea from Engine Killer, he has a photo of his setup here.

Keep us posted, it’s going to be good.

^^That looks like a good idea, Thanks.^^

I've done some research on the twin fan's and im starting to think its not needed.

I'll stick with the single fan at the moment and see how it goes.

Depends how often you will be in slow moving traffic, once on the move, the fan does little over and above normal airflow, and probably wont even be switched on.

It was an everyday car, thats why I was thinking of fitting the extra fan. Now its going to be my weekend car so I do not think I would need it tbh.

Anyway, more updates over the weekend on other progress :D

edit - What torque should the cam cover bolts be done to?

put the twin fan set up in. connect up as usual the one fan, and wire the other fan to a seperate switch via a relay

that way you can control when you need extra cooling, if you ever needed it

Or leave it on and let the auto fan kick in when needed

Sounds good to me :)

Quick update, the old rad and single fan have been dumped. New ali rad and fan installed (Still need to flush the system & Connect other fan to switch)and I've put the catch tank in.

Question 1 :

Whats the best way to flush the coolent? Take the drain plug out the rad and fill from tank with hose pipe while the car is running?! ;)

Or as I thought, take the thermostat housing off so you dont need the car running??

Question 2 :

Ok, I'm going to keep the twin fan and wire up a manual switch.

I have no idea when it comes to electric's, so all the help is much appreciated!!

The 2 wire's coming from the fan (Yellow & Blue) I take it are + & -

If so, I can earth it on my gb and run the other + feed into the car then connect it up to a switched live and a switch?

Anyone want to do me a wiring diagram please ? :)

What sort of cable is required?

Why do you need a relay?

Auto fan will only kick in on 1 fan though if only one is connected?

Cheers,

you need a relay to switch the high current the fan requires.

if you dont have one you will burn out the switch or cable to the switch causing fire ;)

Thats what I was worried about.

So, I would connect the realy to the switch and 12V from the battery? I have quite a few relay's knocking about from when I changed my lights to morette's, Will these be suitible for the current or is there certain relay's I would need?

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks pete, I understand now. I have some relays at home that'll do the trick.

I'll give that a go and see what happens :P

Going to buy a multi meter first :D

Isn't there a twin fan relay you can plug into the standard loom available?

You can find the Relay box on all 205 TD's, Has everything you need in it to work, You can then use that never used red plug on the 205 hanging around the N/S headlight

I cant say I've seen it, it may off been chopped when the conversion was done.

When you say I can use it, how do you mean?

Thanks,

Neil

Where is the best place to get a new ph2 rear bumpr?

I have phoned autofive and have been quoted 182.56 for the bumper & fixings.

I am unsure whever they are paatern parts or not.

Anyone brought one from there?

Edit - Just phoned my local pug dealer and was quoted cheaper then autofive?!! So I will order it through pug

I believe he means you can use it in conjunction with the diesel twin fan relay for 2 fans

I've orderd a multi meter of fleabay so that'll be here within a few days, then I'll sort the twin fan :P

I'm going to move my battery at the weekend, I've orderd the ph2 rear bumper and some rear beam mounts and also some plus flush locking aero catches.

Any advise when moving the battery to the boot? Should I use a distribution block in the front or just extend the cable to the boot?

There's a few ways in which you can do this I know but my plan is to:

Earth the original - to chasis

Extend the + to the boot with cut off switch

Earth the battery to the boot floor

Will this be safe?

I am in the process of replacing the cam covers, is there a gasket you can buy from pug or do you only use silcone?

Thanks,

Neil
