Now i know that you can buy the rear mounting parts with them BUT has anyone had problems getting through scruteneering with a FG bonnet without the rear section, therefor not having the rubber strip? its just i was told by a scrut that if i didn't have the rubber bit he could fail me because it makes up part of the fire wall??

Kick him in the nuts, or put the rubber strip on it.

The rule is the Bulkhead must be air tight (Ish) from the engine bay, If you don;t have a heater then your OK

I'd only change as a last resort for evey ounce of weight coming off as a 205 bonnet isn't the heaviest thing in the world, Or I just removed the bracing from my old one.

That's an absolute load of cock. Ask him to explain exactly why he considers a poxy bit of rubber to be part of the firewall.

I weighed my de-strenghtened steel bonnet in at about 6kg's after removing about 2.5kgs from it. My fg bonnet weighes (with all the catches in it) circa 3kg's and it doesnt flap about like the old steel one.

Well thats what he said! "make sure thats intact or we can fail you because its part of the fire wall" sounded daft at the time!

Usual scrutineer misunderstanding the regs situation, happens from time to time.

if you get one of mine (see group buy) with the bracing the rubber seal can be used.

and i think mine are the best ~(of course) i made them because all the other ones i seen were crap. and wanted a proper one that wouldnt flap everywhere

I had the same problem on my sprint car, its not that its part of the fire wall, its to stop any smoke from an engine

fire entering the cabin. i took my rubber strip off the bonnet drilled holes in the top edge of the baulkhead

(where the chassis number is stamped)and fitted it to it there with the original clips and its passed scrutineering ever since

i had a fibre glass one (with the frame) and the fibre glass one diped a little bit abov the exhaust manifold, looked into to this a fair bit and there are two types of resin you can use and the dearist one is alot more which handle the high temps, so if it is a track car and you dont mind a slight deformation then it will be ok. but on my car i opteded for a metel one.v and sent the fibre glass one back BUT mine is a tu with the manifold at the front.

Back on topic,i've got a Smith & Deakin fibre glass bonnet(without framework behind it) on my 205 and have had a few problems with it.Being just the thin bonnet skin it has now begun to 'sag' a little in the middle and as the car is on carbs the bonnet is beginning to interfere with the throttle linkage. At the moment im not quite sure what to do.

oz.

Main thing about the FG bonnets - get the ones with a bit of structure behind them, wind will catch them and if the speed is high enough it can tear them off. Second point - the 'rubber strip' or bonnet seal is a must to pass scruiteneers unless you have blocked the air inlet to the cabin that is.

Put a roof scoop and block the inlet and then you can take away the seal

thought they had to be there to prevent oil going onto the windscreen should something pop...
