How Meaty Should New Battery Cable Be?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

Forgive me I am not overly technical, especially with electrical stuff.

I am going to move my battery to the boot in my 205. I know the bigger the better but I don’t really want some garden hose sized cable running through the car.

What sort of cable am I going to need in terms of ampage?

I am thinking of getting it from these guys, VWP

Many thanks

Jonny

4gauge should be fine imo. which is the 25mm sq one (ref 196).

4guage is a very reasonable size! That's what i'd personally go for!

look at a 3 series with a battery in the boot and youll see the cable size needed for one of those.

(its roughly 4g iirc)

The guy who put the battery in the boot of mine used bmw stuff from the scrappy including the little jump start box under the bonnet etc.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

I had a 3 series but I got rid of it six months ago. I do plan to use the same idea and have a BMW jump box up front though..
