Topping Up The Gearbox

Recommended Posts

humanz

Ok, i've got a small gearbox leak from the level plug that's accessible behind the passenger wheel. I want to top up the gearbox. As far as I can tell from posts on here, I should remove the level plug and fill the box from the top. But my question is, if the car is on level ground, should any oil come out of the level plug once I undo the bolt? Will it be alot? The last time i tried to undo the bolt, oil came out, although i was led to believe that there shouldn't be any oil coming out. Granted, the car wasn't on level ground.

I'm only doing this as a stop gap. The current box is to be swapped with a rebuilt box in the coming weeks.

Probably not if you've got a leak, but not a problem if it does. I just shove the nozzle in and fill it up then replace the plug, with a new washer. You can fill it from the top, but I find this a bit fiddly personally.

If it's properly drained then just measure out 1.8 litres and stick that in. Some Be1's don't have a level plug.
