Doubt you will get a set with washers although it might be possible, try someone like TK preccision or even Demontweeks possibly.

Just get a pitch gauge from a tool supplier. Only a few quid for a half decent one and they're pretty useful.

I have these, but now I have studs, so I need nuts for the C5 wheels. I am surprised I didn't find the answer on a search, as I am sure someone must have a stud set up with C5 wheels.:)

You'll want some taper seat nuts such as the SN43 from here which Miles can source afaik.

one thing you do need to check before you go buying nuts is how long the shank is and how deep the nuts will sit, as the wheels are nowhere near as thick as a cast alloy wheel.

How critical is the washer part anyway?

I know people running C5 wheels on standard washerless steel wheel bolts with seemingly no ill-effect, and I believe that there's plenty of other taper-seal alloy wheels out there run without washers.

I have never run them without so can't comment specifically, but given they aren't the thickest I would imagine turning a taper against the soft alloy wouldn't be a good idea, the thicker cast alloys with the flat face have a washer as well.

I may be wrong but didn't the introduction of the 540572 wheel nut pictured above by Welshpug come at the same time that all the C5 'steel' wheels were recalled due to cracking around the bolt holes? Subsequently the wheel part number and the bolt part number changed; prior to that they used a more 'standard' steel wheel bolt.

Maybe the use of the standard bolts contributed to the cracking on the C5's? Either way i will be using the genuine bolt with conical washer when i fit mine - even though they are grossly overpriced at £2.58+vat each!!

I do believe Febi Bilstein can supply them these days.

I do believe Febi Bilstein can supply them these days.

A quick look suggests that they can - Febi part number 30400 from what I can see (clicky)

30400.jpg

Mind you, a quick look suggests that most places aren't selling it a whole heap cheaper than the dealer - especially not when you factor in the discount you can probably obtain if you're on friendly terms.

Interestingly, a look on Servicebox suggests that 540572 wheelbolt is used on lots of newer Peugeot models with steel wheels - 308, 407, 3008, 5008, Partner and others, and isn't unique to C5's at all as some have said previously.

I'm assuming most / all of those models do use true steel wheels, rather than the steel-looking alloy wheels that the C5 does?

Will have to ring a factor and get a price on those tomorrow - i suspect they will be significantly cheaper than Citroen though! Cheers for the info guys. :)

Well, a few online places I checked were around £2.00-2.25 inc VAT each.

Hopefully a good 'factor will be a fair bit cheaper, but otherwise, assuming Servicebox is correct then it shouldn't be hard to find them in any scrappy that has newer cars in (ie one that deals with insurers) for pennies :)

I'm wondering if that bolts used on the C5 wheels were just coincidentally the start of the new type taper bolts that they're using on all the newer cars, and aren't actually strictly necessery at all?

I know the 607 used an alloy wheel like the C5, but I haven't seen enough of the newer cars in scrapyards to confirm.

The more recent steel wheels seem to me significantly lighter as well, not far off the weight of the alloy ones!

It seems odd that the part number is listed for so many models given that i have never seen any on anything bar a mk1 C5 and have never sold any other than to a 205 owner and looking at servicebox/citroen service this might be because they are only listed for models with steel wheels which are becoming increasingly rare even the base models - although the economy range might spur a resurgence.

All others use a bolt that can do both the alloys and the steel spare and so is far more common. Either way i'll be keeping my eyes peeled in scrappies for modern PSA cars without alloys - the vans are the best bet i think.

Best price i've been given so far for the Bilstein ones is £2 each including the vat - so not much less than a dealer but worth the saving on a full set.
