Fitting Beam Mounts

Recommended Posts

NeilGTi85

Hello All,

I need some new bushe's for the beam on my 1.6. I'm sure i've heard somewhere that you can replace these while the beam is still on the car?

I'm planning on getting GrpN Rear Beam Mount Kit from BBM if it makes any diffrence!

Cheers,

neil

Yes, the rear sandwich mounts (which is what the Group N kit replaces) can be fitted with the beam still attached to the car. You'll need to jack the car up, undo the sandwich mounts completely top and bottom, and loosen (but not remove) the nuts holding the front mounts on the boot floor. That will give you just about enough movement to remove and refit the rear sandwich mounts.

if you think about it, it's what holds the beam along with the rear mounts.

so in a word no.

axle has to come off as you'll have to burn, cut, chisel old mounting bushes out

the rear sandwich blocks can be changed with axle still mounted. although you'll need te slacken the front rear mount nuts a bit
