Xu10j2te Xm And 406 Differences

Recommended Posts

pablo

Anyone know what the differences are in the two engines? The pipework looks a bit different and I seem to recall reading some XMs used an all in one manifold/turbo piece?

There is a local guy selling an XM engine cheap and Id be tempted to buy it for spares, but only if the turbo etc was all compatible. Engine is from a 94 XM.

cheers.

Crazy-legs!

Don't quote me on this, but im led to believe that the ealier RGY engines ran lower compression, and flat top pistons. As opposed to the latter RGX which ran higher compression using dished pistons. I think some of the early engines used the MI16 type engine mount, instead of the S16 type the latter ones used. As far as turbo's go, i thought they all used the same Garrett TB25?

Hope this helps! Marc.

Turbos came up as same part no on the citroen and pug servicebox sites not sure where I dreamt up the all in one turbo thing?

some are tb25 and some are TB2567 but when i asked a turbo refurb company they said there all the same. i have had an xm engine and a xantia engine which i have in my 306 and both turbo's smoke so im getting crturbo's to rebuild and hybrid mine, think i got quoted £550. as already said 2 different types of pistons but not sure which engine has which, but i thought the dished was for lower compression? iv used an xm head on my xantia engine but the timing hole didnt line up so had to guess at the timing if thats any help for you.

The dished pistons are the higher compression ones, as the dish sits further up the bore than the flat topped pistons.

The Turbos visually should be the same. Seperate manifold and turbo set up not combined.

Oil seal is prone to weeping. Got mine 'hybrided' for £110 balanced and new seals :)

Any differences (apart from the compression ratio) will be wiring and bolt on, like different inlet manifold, sensors etc.
