Be1 Or Be3 Gearbox?

Recommended Posts

Seeing as my shell is currently missing the mechanicals and my wallet is somewhat empty then I am just doing bits and pieces. Before I start making a quickshift lever up I could do with opinions of which gearbox I should use. Engine will be an Mi16 which will eventually receive some tuning but nothing insane. Maybe towards the 200bhp mark. I have got both BE1 and BE3 levers and i want to know which one to go for. Will probably be wanting to use a 1600 box for the lower ratios if that makes any difference?

Any opinions welcomed

Cheers Steve

the lever you alter to make the gearshift shorter throw is not specific to BE1 or BE3.

my BE1 lever looks longer! The main thing is should I retain the cable for the BE1 reverse or not

Just remove the collar of the BE1 stick and use the BE3 sleeve, no change to swap sticks

Mine is currently going from BE1 to BE3 (1.6 to Xsara VTS)

Using the same Gearstick, although have changed clutch pedals for the BE3 clutch mech.

Ok thanks, I have both BE1 and BE3 set ups so can pick and choose. Just really could do with knowing which is the stronger and better box if either?

Cheers Steve

be3 is easier to get reverse in a hurry, rumour has it they're a little stronger but I've been running Be1's for years without issue

I know the BE3 are stronger than the BE1 supposedly have better bearings
