Bearing Help

I have searched for this but with no joy.

im having trouble finding the bearing that fits in the top of the steering rack. i have brought a splined quick rack from shempar and my orginal rack was a square drive unit, which a believe uses a different size bearing.

Does anybody know the bearing number or where i could get hold of one for a splined pinion

I remember Mark (swordfish) had to modify something to fit a standard type bearing, dont know any more details though, ask Mark

The splined shaft is a 6002 bearing iirc. I replaced my rack with a Quaife item and i ended up using a 6003 bearing and having the shaft (mine was a square drive) ground down on a cylindrical grinder to suit the bearing as, apparently, the Quaife shaft wasn't desinged to any specific bearing.

if its just to fit a complete rack then its easier to simply change the bottom joint on the column !![just done this myself but splined to square]unless its a rack and pinion kit

Why would Quaife not design it to any specific bearing size, that just sounds daft to me

Thats what i said, allbeit using slightly more coulourful language, but i still couldnt get any decent response out of them.

haha i did try and get a quick rack from quaife but they took about 4-5 days to process my order and add me to the system (not sure why), im glad i didnt now
