205 Gutmann Spoiler On My Rallye

Recommended Posts

allye

Hi all, I have a UK Rallye with a gutmann spoiler fitted. I remember reading somewhere it may have been anoptional extra when new? It is a rubber type one and is screwed to my boot! I don't really like it and am after a normal white boot.

Just interested whether it is rare or if I can just get shot of it!

Thanks a lot, Ali

It was an option in the accessories catalogue around 1992. Gutmann made them but you could actually get them in a Peugeot box and they were identical. The difference being that the Peugeot ones did not have the Gutmann stamp on the left hand underside. The catalogue picture has one fitted to a yellow 205 which meant it could only be a Rallye or a Junior from 1992/3.

They fit in the standard screwholes of a GTI upper rear spoiler (which the Rallye didn't have as standard) and they bond onto the top of the tailgate, so technically you can pull it off and clean up the pain surface on the top and attach a little black GTI spoiler and you will be non the wiser. I have removed one before from an XS this way. The problem with trying to replace your tailgate totally is that a GTI one will need painting as it has metal lugs where your badges are, it will be scuffed under the plastic trim panel and you will lose your Rallye stickers.

I once bought 21 of these in Peugeot boxes back in the late 1990s and sold them back to Revolution who sold them onto the Gutmann importers of the time (ISP) as they could not source them! I had one out of the box that did have the Gutmann stamp on it, hence I know the difference. I also had one fitted to my Yellow Junior D and silver XS.

They are not common, but can go for reasonable money on ebay as they are a genuine / period accessory. It all depends who is looking and at what time.

I hope this helps.

Henry

Wow! thanks a lot for that very detailed replay, personaly I dont think it suits the car, i think it would be more at home on a gti or an actualy rallye car. I think its quite T16! How much should I be expecting to get for it? I have sourced another rallye boot without the spoiler now. Any one interested!?

Thanks, Ali

Just be careful when taking it off as they have a metal bar in them that can bend and make them look wonky. I would be interested in it but it will not fit on my CTI!

You forget how many years of Peugeot experience I have under my belt, from back in the heyday of them being modified!
