Gti6 Engine Question

Hi, i'm picking up a GTI-6 engine for the 205 this week, come4s with loom, ecu and everything needed. I've been told I also need the chip and transponder thingy too?

Is this true and for what reason ecu I guess??

its only required if the ecu hasn't been left unlocked when the engine was removed.
