Be1 And Be3 Clutch Arm Differences?

Is the be1 arm lower down the front of the cas when compared the later box?

Are the cases the same so the later stuff can be fitted?

Yes it is, yes you can.

 

No it is not hard to convert, except for getting the pin that joins the shaft to the arm seperate on the BE3.

yes, though some later BE4's had something similar to BE1 again.

depends on the age of the casing and which car they came from, my 1989 BE1 in the top picture has the BE3 clutch shaft holes present as well as a TDC sensor hole, I have seen these on cars back to late 87.

All my 205s in the past have been be3s which look so simple compared to the be1, looking at the pictures I can't even work out it works?

There is no shaft on the BE1, just a big arm that is pushed back by the triangulated arm

yes, the arm pivots on a fixed ball inside the bellhousing, then you have the quadrant lever and pin that is pulled by the cable.

Its a push clutch rather than a pull clutch, so you would have to remove the box and change the clutch as well

Its a push clutch rather than a pull clutch, so you would have to remove the box and change the clutch as well

so the be1 gearbox I have with a be3 arm and cable arrangement has a be3 clutch in it?

no you wont need to dismantle the box at all.

 

the 205 BE3 and BE1 pressure plates and friction plates are the same, the only difference in the kit is the bearing as they fit on the arms differently.

 

 

the confusing bit is that a 1.9 Mi16 BE1 bearing is the same as a BE3 205 bearing, but the pressure and friction paltes are 15mm larger in diameter.

yep, there's a different one there too, but its only a hole and pin on the BE1, and a slot on the BE3, so nothing drastic.

now this is confusing

 

car 1 a 205 gti with an mi16 engine and gearbox in it with a lift up reverse which makes it an mi16 be1 but be3 clutch arm thus be3 clutch cable.

 

Car 2 a 309 gti with a be1 gearbox with lift up reverse but which I now realise has a be3 arm and clutch cable?

 

Car 3 a 205 gti with a knackered engine and be3 gearbox so be3 clutch cable and arm and reverse below 5th.

 

Car 1 donates it's mi16 engine/gearbox/lift up reverse mechanism into car 3.

Car 2 donates it's 8v engine and be1 gearbox/lift up reverse mechanism to car 1

Easier solution would be Car 1 Mi engine and box into Car 3, straight swap,

 

Car 2 engine goes into car 1 with gearbox that came out of car 3.

I've already done all the swaps, just illustrating how

confusing it was

It was all made slightly easier as all 3 cars (it now turns out) d

has be3 clutch cables and arms
