There is a Haynes manual available on-line afaik.

Before you start get some bank bags or similar, you probably will need about 10 to 15, and sone masking tape to help label pipes wire sensors etc. If you are not sure what things are called then just use corresponding numbers or letters.

Things you can do first are:

Drain the water

Drain the oil.

Remove the air inlet pipe, air filter housing, pipe to Airflow meter, pipe to inlet manifold. Make sure you label components as you go along, and if not over confident then take some digital pics as a reminder to putting things back.

Remove the inlet manifold disconnecting the injectors (again very important to lable them 1,2,3,4 to ensure they are put back in the correct order), sometimes iirc there is a supporting bracket mounted on the underside of this to the engine block. If you have a later car approx 1991 onwards then you will also need to disconnect the ignition amp connector.

Remove the sensors connected to the distributor, and use a cold (sp) chisel and hammer to mark the dristributor to the head on the engine as this will help to put the timing back, then remove the distributor also ensuring you label all the ht leads when pulling them off (you might as well leave these all connected to the dizzy end).

Disconnect the exhaust manifold from the down pipe, and then remove the remaing nuts holding the exhaust manifold to the head, however this maybe possible to do onnce the head is off.

Undo the top engine mount located on the drivers inner wing.

Remove the cam cover and seal.

Jack up the car and support it.

Remove the drivers side wheel and inner wheel arch cover.

Remove all the covers to the cambelt.

Remove the bolt to the lower engine mount ensuring to support the engine with a block of wood and trolly jack on the sump.

Now jack the engine up enough to remove the top engine mount off the side of the head/block.

IIRC it is now importand to engage the dowls (I use drill bits in the correct timing holes on the cam sprocket and bottom end pully. I now just loosen the cam sprocket nut however this is just enought to make it possible once the cambelt is removed.

Once this is done you can then release the tensioner located on the rear of the block(this is a pig of a job).

You should now be able to remove the belt and cam sprocket.

Finally remove the head bolts in the correct sequence, however I cannot confirm what this is so wait til you get your manual or others maybe able to help.

You will need to buy

Inlet manifold gasket

Exhaust manifold gasket

Distributor gasket

Coolant

Oil

HTH

Jeremy

Oil filter
