Oil Fliter Leak

Recommended Posts

McDude

I know an oil filter should only be hand tight, but when mine is hand tight it still leaks. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm assuming that it might be due to years of filters being over-tightened and now the only way it will seal will be with an over-tightening.

Incedentally both times I've changed the filter on my 205, it has been stupidly tight to remove and last time I had to use a tool to tighten it to stop leaking.

Does anyone have any tips? Or should I just tool tighten again?

Also - anyone know of a good tool? The halfords ones are all a bit s*it.

A little oil around the seal helps to seal it better and i only use Peugeot oil filters myself, around the £10 mark but worth it TBH.

There is an O-ring for the oil cooler connection, could it be that which is leaking?
