Driveshaft Gaiter Clip

Recommended Posts

Rupes

I dismantled the long (RH) driveshaft on my Rallye today to fit a new outer CV gaiter. I'm just putting it back together but I can't get the clip thing on (to go round the large end). It's like a coiled spring with only two coils, how do you put them on? I'll see if I can load a picture on:post-11468-1257620528.jpg

- has that worked?

Where do you get cable ties that long? It must be 25cm round.

Wheel weights are on the rim of the wheel, not the hub.

Why don't you go and stick a jubilee ring on your car and take it for a drive...

Is there enough clearance for the worm drive part of the jubillee to get past the hub casting?

Just about yes.

Edit: Not sure about a TU which is what this thread is about but I would have thought they would have more room if anything.

Interesting. I've just bought the proper tool for crimping the metal type so I'll be using those from now on.

if you have the tool you might as well do it properly.

I used cable ties in the end, 400mm ones cut to size. They seem to have worked, been driving the car for since yesterday and it seems sweet.

Having said that, I'm not sure about the inner CV joint which I had to take apart in order to get the new outer gaiter on. I had to prize the metal sheild thing off the 'butterfly thing' but when I put it back together I thought, blimey, is that all that's holding this joint together! I guess there is compression from the hub to the dif to hold it all together, or am I going to have a horrible accident in a few days when it flys apart?

... what's more, the metal sheild thing doesn't seem very tight on the butterfly, I reckoned I was gonna lose grease through it (so I sealed it with silicon sealant). Is that normal?
