Bilstein Armac Long Top Spindle Inserts =which Top Mounts Can I Use?

Recommended Posts

OOps Title should say Bilstein Tarmac Long Top Mount spindle inserts!

Due to the very strange/complicated and pointless changes in classes for speed events (hillclimbs/sprints) for 2010, I can still use my Bilstein coilovers but can't use the fixed Peugeot Talbot Sport spherical top mounts

So can I get a standard Peugeot top mount to fit with the long top spindle bilstein coilover inserts?

thanks in advance for any help.

PS Looks like the sales of rosejointed wishbones and adjustable top mounts will fall quite a lot.

Dont think the sales of the stuff will fall, as there is still a huge market.

There was a topic (or have been topics) in the passed about this.

I used to run std top mounts on my coilovers , with an uprated rubber , so they should fit. I've just tried to look for my old photos , but struggling to find them.

You can run them with standard top mounts, although you will need the following parts............

2 x 7228/1 - Top Spring Pan for standard Top Mounts

2 x 7245/2 - Top Spindle Spacer

And optional........but worth fitting

2 x 7245/1 - Group N Hard Rubber Doughnut for standard strut mounting

Will take some pictures for you tomorrow if you want as I've got all the parts off the car in the garage

Photos would be excellent! Can you still get the parts...Skip Brown or Special Tuning?

It just pains me having to fit inferior parts when I've run it with the PTS top mounts for 15 years and they give brilliant steering feel even though they aren't adjustable :)

Those part numbers are from the Skip Brown Catalogue

You can find the catalogue on line here...... http://track-monkey.co.uk/SBC_CAT.htm

How old are the prices I don't know. Give Del a ring at Skip Brown - what she does'nt know about Peugeots you can write on a postage stamp.......she's an absolute star.

I'll get those pics sorted for you ASAP

i had std top mounts on billy coilovers too. The adaptor to take the (PTS) 70mm spring to the std top mound looked home made, so even if you can't buy them you could make some. I wonder if if a spherical joint could find it's may into the depths of the rubber. .. . . :-)

Anything is possible with some thought! A few years ago I used to race autograss minis. For some reason you were not allowed solid engine mounts, yet the standard ones lasted about 5 minutes. In the end I got some knackered standard ones, cut all the rubber offf, welded them up solid, and then sikaflexed all the way round. When cured I trimmed it back with a knife and had solid eng mounts that looked like standard ones!

Cheers 205 WRC that was really kind of you and shows how simply the swap is. I wonder how different it will make the car feel. Looks like its a call to Del Brown. They fitted a full Group A set up on my car many years ago and did a brilliant job setting it up. Still gutted to have to take off the Group A top mounts to replace them with all that rubber! Again many thanks.

ah! this is ths same part I have in the picture below, but mine have had a bit of tube welded to the inside, which i guess is to hold the top of the sping in place on full droop.

top, GpA PTS R/J'd top mounts with genuine PTS bodyand tar insert/spring (70mm iD)

bottom, Std top mount with H/D rubber and the two parts ref by 205WRC above, compbrake body with gravel insert/spring (65mm ID)
