205 Speedo Sensor In Me5t Box ?

Recommended Posts

EricYellow

Does anyone know if I can just fit the 205 speedo gear/spur gear (or how do you call it...?) into the ME5T gearbox to get a correct speedo reading of will it eat the teeth of it ?

Speedo readings are "a little" optimistic right now...

You mean you have time to look at the speedo with 466 bhp?? ;)

The way I did mine (albeit on a BE4) was to try the pinions from other models with the same box. If the speedo is reading fast, you either need more teeth on the pinion\spur gear (or less on the actual drive) to bring the speedo reeading down. Servicebox tends to list the teeth on these, so use this and experiment down at your local breakers yard. Worked for me - I used a sat nav to get the speedo pretty accurate with the correct spur gear :)

I think that if I just put in another spur gear with more teeth on it, the teeth won't match with the actual drive and they will start eating each other...

Nah, it's fine if you go up by only 1 or 2 :) Tried and tested! They are quite a loose fit as standard so this helps.

Also there is a difference in some sets of clocks on how they read. I swapped to a different set of dash clocks with Euro markings on them (I set the mileage to match the old ones) and it cured my 10mph over reading problems after I had fitted the 405 Mi16 with 1.9 FD gearbox. I had changed nothing else bar the clocks

I checked servicebox, the speedo sensor for the ME box is the same fitment as the BE/MA/ML

only issue is that the pinion is 21T on the sensor and 26T on the diff, this gives a ratio of 1.238:1

IIRC the standard BE 205 is 22 x 17, which is a 1.29:1

the 605's ES9 ML gearbox uses 25x20, which gives 1.25:1

it might be possible like Ross suggested to use the 20T pinion from the ML with the 26T of the ME, which will give 1.3:1, this is part number 2649 21 CONTROL PINION 20 DTS

If I check Citroen Servicebox an look at the ME5t box they say that it uses 25x20, not 26x21...

Guess I'll have to take it apart to see what's really inside...

that would be to account for different size wheels and tyres I imagine.

I'll just order the 26T and 20T gears and hope that it will all fit.
