Mayo In Filler Bottle

Recommended Posts

pablo

recently been having some mayo build up in the filler bottle. Whats strange is that it smells of petrol.

Any ideas? I thought it was just condensation at first as the outlet pipe is open to the air, and the car wasnt used much but Ive been using it a good bit this week and its still there. Not getting any worse I might add and not blowing any mayo out the pipe, just vapour.

power etc is spot on and its not losing coolant. oil from the dipstick is perfect.

appreciate any help

Hmmmm.....

Have you taken ALL of the breathers off and cleaned them out? If it smells like fuel, it could well be that it is coming from the throttle body breather, is the throttle body full of crap?

I would deffo start with a good clean up, take the whole system off and clean it up internally. Also, have a play with the TB and see if you can take issue with it?

Oh, I am assuming that you are on about the Oil filler bottle and not the coolant bottle?

yes its the oil filler sorry. Ive blanked off the hose to the TB so the only outlet from the filler bottle is the large pipe which is venting to air atm (with a little tub under to see if anything comes out). All thats come out is a few drops of clearish liquid.

That daft wire gauze in the filler cap seems to trap moisture creating a scaring looking bit of mayo. I just rip out out. If there was much moisture/coolant in the oil you'd see it everywhere if you took the cam cover off. Is the oil on the dip stick ok?

dipstick is perfect and there isnt a drop under the rocker (Ive had it off recently).

I too think its just moisture build up. Ill rip the mesh out and also plan to pipe it back into the intake again as its making a smell on idle which isnt too nice.

actually there is no gauze in the filler CAP, just the little mesh in the filler bottle itself

If you do lots of short journeys, it is easy to get mayo in your filler bottle. Condensation is the main cause, usually with longer journeys, this can get burnt off.

Fuel smell is unburnt fuel vapor in the breather, again symptomatic of a lot of short journeys where it is running rich.

have blocked the free to air pipe and reinstated the filler bottle to TB pipe so hopefully this will help keep moisture down and stop the smell as it will get burnt off. There isnt any oil going back in there so should be ok.

Unless you do a fair few miles and get the oil nice and hot, some mayo in the filler tower is normal for a 205 in winter. If it isn't losing any coolant, I really wouldn't worry too much about it
