205 Gti 1.9 - Spring Rate For Track Use

Recommended Posts

Question to the racers in this forum :

What front spring rate would you recommend for a 205 GTI 1.9 race car ( main spring and helper spring on Koni coilovers ) ?

At the rear end i use tarmac bilstein dampers.

its a few years ago now but we used to run about 500lb springs in the dry on the 205s, that was pretty much in group N trim (std arb), running on dunlop 15" slicks (dont remember compound), cant remember torsion bars but they would have Peugeot Sport group N stuff.

Interestingly, I then got a 309 16v, we experimented a lot more with that as no one really seemed to know what would work, on dry grippy days we ended up running as high as 1300lb springs at the front, rear and tryes as per above.

It was cheap enough to get springs made up aswell if that suits, Faulkiner Springs (in UK) were the crowd I used, they were very good and helpful, but that is going back a bit now.

hope I've been of some help.

I run 350lb front and 23mm rear, on semi-slicks.

Thanks for the answers !!

I use Dunlop Slicks 200/580/15. Standard rear torsion bars.

Actually i have Bilstein tarmac dampers all around with H&R springs which work

very well, but now i will mount adjustable top mounts to get more -camber.

I have the 309GTI arms already.

A friend of mine gave me his Koni coilovers fitted with

310lbs mainsprings and 140lbs helpersprings to test.

So this springs will be to weak you think ?

they will be too stiff for standard torsion bars.
