I couldn't cope at 38 (neither could the little single 8" fan on my rad) proper heat wave over here at the moment..... sweaty-balls.com!!!

At least our engines will always perform better than yours with more oxygen dense air :P :P and thats where the pros of living in UK rather than Oz ends hahaha

You joke about it Peter, but you're really not far off - the official point at which a "heatwave warning" is triggered is as low as 28 degrees depending whereabouts you are in the country

It was 24 here today and I wasn't sure whether I wanted my jacket on or off. I guess 24 in winter is a lot different to 24 in summer.

24 is worth moaning about in England... actually any temperature is worth moaning about in England... actually anything is worth moaning about in England.

Its a quite different type of heat though, its just so humid and sticky here, where as in Aus I experienced mid 40's and it didn't feel much different.

Sorry to turn your thread into a weather whine. It can be so humid here on the coast too. Avoid Sydney in Feb. It's usually 90+% humidity and 34-36 deg. Sweat drips down your back all day. Where as over the range, 35+ and 40-50% is lush.

Back on cars. I like the gear ratios. How much did the box cost?

Friday - well that was a day i would like to forget......

Got the car fully built back up to then fire up and instantly hear the twin clutch plates rattling......hmm something was wrong straight away, turns out the Input Shaft Guide bracket is a little bigger than standard and plus running a rally type AP clutch (not the thin sintered type) caused the release bearing carrier Colin made up for me to be too fat and sat against the Input Shaft Guide bracket and was pressing against the clutch fins thus engaging my clutch, obviously it wasn't Colins fault at all because he has used those measurements for many different applications in the past but its just turned out that this combination didnt want to work.

So a quick fix to get me back running was sought after and ended up spacing the gearbox away from the engine block with a thick washer on each of the 4 bolts which worked however gave me a very short clutch and i think was still partially engaged as i felt is slip a little through the day.

However i broke my PB and broke the record twice ending with a 33.71s which reduced it by 0.48s

I have a couple videos which ill post up in the next couple days but ill be busy pulling the gearbox back out and getting the release bearing carrier shaved down, oh and having to heli-coil the lower rear gearbox bolt threads as they stripped out yesterday.....oh joy!!!

It is a lovely sound to hear the box whine through the gears and clonk into each gear, makes it feel like a proper race car not just an overpowered road car, very happy with it :D :D

Yeh she really doesnt like braking when still turning, the ass end is so light now i have the bias almost closed completely to the rear wheels otherwise it acts like a Kart.....

So the Dogbox has been removed after the release bearing problems, i have had the release bearing carrier turned down to fit but with removing the bearing from the carrier for the 2nd time it was becoming a bit questionable as it felt rather lumpy so it was prident to just buy a new one, Tech Craft supplied me with a AP Racing bearing (previously ran a Helix) which proved much bigger than the Helix unit and shock horror it was catching on the casing and so would not go back far enough leaving me still with -2mm of clearence.

After cutting up an old casing to see how thick this section was, about 3.4mm, i got the dremel out and shaved myself some clearence as you will see from the pics below.

So anyone ever fitting a AP Racing Release Bearing can rest assured you have enough meat to shave some clearence for the bearing.

Then unfortunately the carrier sat back against the guide shaft bolt heads so the dremel came out again to shave into the carrier the clear the bolt heads.....

Now all is fitted back and i have plenty of clearence for the release bearing to the clutch.

Must say that was A LOT of hassle but i know everything has been done properly with new parts and should never have to come back out again (touch wood)

Great result and well done on breaking the class record! :D

Only thing I'm wondering is whether a quicker steering rack would help at all, as looking at the videos you seem to be crossing up and having to feed the wheel quite a lot even on corners that don't look that tight.

Yeh it would be nice, that is already a quick rack, wouldnt know where to go next!!

Trying to counteract some understeer

Slow down?

Really doesnt look like a quick rack! I go round mini roundabouts with less wheel twirling

What rack have you got fitted? Looks like it's 3 turns (or more) judging by the turn and a half ish of steering lock you apply at the hairpin at the end of the second video without appearing to touch the stop.

I just watched the video and I agree, put a Xsara VTS rack on and it will definitely help, you'll be able to keep your hands on the wheel a lot more. Does it have PAS?

No PAS, ill look into the turning circle of it.

Currently need to sort my brakes, running Bendix all round and they are all binding, the guys at the start lines often have trouble rolling me into place.

Was going to buy some brand new Bendix rears off ebay as mine are just old but not sure on the front set up?

I wouldn't fit a Xsara VTS rack without PAS, I tried it and while it was drivable I didn't feel confident I could get as much lock on as I needed fast enough in tight turns due to the heaviness, once I put PAS on it I was definitely faster just because I trusted it more.

Its a bitch to turn when not moving at the moment......the turning circle has never really bothered me, get a few more thing higher on the priority list before then, ie:

Guard Panel for Cam belt and Oil Pump Belt

Un-binding the brakes

New Battery Straps

New brackets for coil

New Gearbox mount

New Carbon Fibre Undertrays

GRP Rear Bumper

Remove more unwanted metal from the boot

The to do list never ends, just gets less urgent and lower priority!!

What's the bank friendly option for front brakes, ie ally disc hubs and ally calipers?
