I totally agree with you Cameron, even in the rc world they are ball ache everything has to have a cut off etc, imo over kill for a real car.

Seems like a total ballache to me!

Especially when you can get a much more stable and reliable Li-ion battery weighing only 1.1kg! I can see the attraction of Li-po for RC cars or electric vehicles; but for just starting / running a car, why bother with all the hassle?

I bought the Lipo's because of the price. For the money of one Li-Ion i can buy 6 Lipos......

And i wanted to remove the alternator -> another 5,5kg less weight.

The Lipos have more power (640A) and more capacitiy 16Ah.

I think for hill/sprintraces my setup is ok, for a trackday i also prefer the Li-Ion + alternator way.

IT NEVER ENDS

Whilst pressing the gears off my 1.9 pinion shaft this morning I notice that the synchro for 1st and 2nd gear has crapped out!!!!

2 of the 3 pillars have sheared top and bottom from the synchros and luckily did not dislodge themselves completely, tryin to source a donor box now

Never ending issues and maintenance

Again it nevers ends

Upon refitting my gearbox I jammed it into the Nissens rad which now has a large leak.......

Give me a break PLEASE!!!!

It's been one of those weekends where I'll actually be glad to get up and go to work tomorrow mornin!!!

........and to top it off i now have Man Flu......... :(

It will all be worth it when she's singing down the 1/4 mile sprint this saturday!!!

I have now been buidling and developing this car for 2 years now and the "To Do" list is still going strong, i have to stop and think, will it ever run down to nothing left to do, its perfect??

If not, this thread could go on for years!!!:P

Would anyone believe that with my exceptional good luck lately that once drained all my oil last night for an oil change and whilst screwing back in the drain plug to my oil catch tank that the head of the plug snapped off leaving the threads in the tank and me with the head of the plug in my hand and little tear from each eye

I've been meaning to buy a new catch tank one day as mine has been hacked up and modified in the past but can you believe the price of them Mocal tanks, £109........!!

Have now contacted a fabrication company to price me up a bespoke 1ltr catch tank and a header tank for the cooling system too.

It's a good thing June was bonus time.............!!!

Yeh i pulled the threads out and have thrown a replacement temporary bolt in there for now but as i said the tanks a bit of a mess as its been modified in the past so its been on the upgrade list for a while now but has just been fast tracked to the top.

As its only a plastic plug which has been soaked in oil for years it didn't even go tight before it decided it had had enough, and yeh it didnt have much of a chance against the Guns... :P

There' some pretty cheap catch tanks on Rally Design, or at least there were.. I haven't checked for a while!

If I had my TIG working then I'd offer to make you one, but alas, still no torch.

Hurray new rad arrived this morning, just a shame I'm flying to Nottingham this mornin for business and not back until tomorrow late afternoon, that gives me 1 night (Friday) to fit the rad and drop the car off the axle stands and fit the shaft nuts and test the gearbox with the 4.4 CWP back in, what's the chances of it all working perfectly or my sprint event on satde with my current stream of luck!!

At least she's now nicely refreshed with all new oils and filters!!

Im looking at having a ally header tank made to replace the std issue tank, what would be the minimum litre volume i could get away with?

Im thinking 1ltr as it doesnt need to hold a lot just be big enough to be able to circulate any overflow from the rad and small return from the water housing??

Thanks

how did the sprint go?

As with you guys we have received heavy downpour all day ancd so it was called off, even if it hadnt been i wouldnt have risked it after last time i raced the sprint in those conditions, pretty disappointed as i wanted to see what she went like now but nevermind!!

Only managed to fire it up this morning too so it would have ben a bit tight with the test drive being the drive down to the event, not ideal!! but all is well, fired up and can engage all gears so gearbox rebuild is a success.

Quite suprised also actually because i now have fresh oil (Mobil 1 10w60) in her and it seems to rev better than before........!!

Next event is the National Hillclimb with all the big guns coming over, hoping by then to have the following upgrades:

GRP bootlid sprayed and fitted

Replacement GRP bonnet sprayed and fitted (now an Auto version to make her look meaner)

L-Ion battery installed

Gaz Gold front suspension fitted

Camber/Caster Top Mounts fitted

Replacement Oil Catch Tank

Ally Header Tank

Totalling a weight reduction of 10-15kgs

Along with the 4.4CWP back in and refreshed engine oils im hoping for the ultimate 33s run taking 0.44s off my pb!!

I think the adjustable top mounts should help quite a lot once youve got them set up nicely for the car

Its been an aim since i started racing the 205 to get some decent top mounts and replace the suspension for better units, to be able to adjust the camber in minutes throughout an event is priceless, i need more camber on the front to prevent tyre roll which i suffer from badly!!

Anyone got an idea of the minimum size of the header tank as asked above?

Looking at the one Sandy and Colin are fitting in their build its fairly small, i'd check with them.

You could happily get away with a 1l tank I'd think.
