Can you put up some pictures of the final car? I had a look through your photobucket but couldn't find any! Just really would love to see the finished car, engine bay and interior (or lack of!)

.5L will be fine.

It will have an overflow so will find its own level, just make sure you run it up when first fitting, get it nice and hot (not too hot obviously). Will kick out any excess and when its cool you have your level!

Make sure you have a catch tank!

Will be interesting to see how the level fluctuates between hot & cold with such a small tank.

Make sure you have a catch tank!

This will be my Red Bull can then hahahahahahaha i had some left over fuel filter brackets which a red bull can fitted into perfectly so that became my overflow!!

Allye - Will try and get some finished pics up asap, it never seems to be finished hence why i havent done many yet

Im not sure even a catch tank is necessary.

Id give it a go without as I can't really see there being an issue, certainly isn't on some race cars I've run, where as others run them (although imo pretty pointless).

You don't consider pissing coolant all over a track to be a bad thing?

Even if you don't, it's nice to know if you've lost any fluids and be able to quickly tell how much.

I'm happy to maintain my red bull can overflow as its weighs the same as a fart in a carrier bag anyway

Only trouble is that ally header tank I think only has a 8mm outlet pipe to the system and 6mm into the tank itself, thinking the 8mm may be a little small?????

It's most likely meant for motorbike engines! I'm sure you could find one (or make one) with a decent sized outlet, that or buy an outlet stub of the correct size (available on 'Tweeks website) and weld it in place of the small one.

Just had a reply from a company that can make me any shape 0.5ltr tank with requested amount of inlets and outlets and at what diameters plus a 1.3 bar cap for £40 delivered!!

Can't go wrong with that huh!!

Just need to confirm what inlet and outlet pipe diameters I need for the hoses I have, can't remember of the top of my head what the std sizes are?

you just need to use 1900 discs, the calipers will fit fine.

Hi all,

Firsty im back

Secondly i must apologise greatly for my serious absence from the forum, the last few months has just been so hectic its unbeleivable, massive increase in commitments at work, decorating my house to be put on the market and starting a very big and involved Accountancy Course (ACCA) so have been studying Law for the last 3 months and only having taken the exam this morning you would not honestly beleive the releif i have right now to have my life back from 24 hour working and studying (if anyone wants to know about the english legal system, contract law, tort law, employment law, company formation and so on and so on im your man)

Anyways enough on me....onto the real reason your reading, the car.

Sorry still no real fully indepth pics but ill get onto these soon i promise, trouble is things are forever developing and changing on the car its hard to keep up to date with pics for you guys.

So cant remember my last update but had the unbeleivable ECU map session with Sandy which has transformed the engine and made it sound "angry" as i have been told from the guys watching it come towards them at the top of the hillclimb, so since then i have dropped i think 60kgs of the car (will check on my spreadsheet at work which lists everything) plus bought myself a new set of boots from Avon, and lastly removed my 4.4 CWP for the std 3.69?? 1.9 Gti CWP to lengthen my gears to suit the hillclimb more.

So 3 hilclimbs in now with the last hillclimb being the only dry day so far and within 1 practise run and 2 timed runs i had smashed my personal best time of 34.90s down to 34.43s thats 0.47s drop which may not sound alot but on a hillclimb totalling 34-35s beleive me its hard to gain a tenth.

However i now have some issues to iron out re Gearing, Suspension, Weight

Gearing - having put my old CWP back in i am now touching the limiter in 3rd coming into a long medium tight left hand straight into a long medium tight right hand, however i am not able to keep the engine on the power band (4700ish low end) pulling round these corners due to lack of front end traction so having to drop to 2nd but then 2nd is too short to enter the top straight in so having to change back to 3rd very quickly and then 4th into the top complex

So will put back in my 4:4 and eradicate the 2nd gear issue altogether, this will mean i can pull hard all through the centre complex in 3rd and be nicely in the power bank coming onto the straight to launch me up it, should gain me some tenths i reckon

Suspension - i have (inbetween studying) been making calls to Colin Satchell and Gaz and ABMotorsport to finally upgrade my front end suspension and loose the old crappy Spax RSX with fixed top mounts for a nice set of Gaz Gold dampers with shortened body, 300lb springs, ABMotosport Camber/Caster Adjustable Top mounts and then a set of Colins shortened 406 driveshafts made to order.

I was getting alot of front tyre roll and afer speaking with Avin they said i was having my pressures too low and should be looking at around 26psi but even with this pressure i am still getting serious front end tyre roll which can be identidied easily by the wall of the tyre being scuffed, conclusion is i need more camber which i cant do with my current set up but can do with the new set up so i cant weait to get it fitted and try out

Lightening - have another 20kgs planned as i have just been in receipt of a new fibreglass boot lid (to replace the one smashed against the wall in the last 205) and a new fibreglass bonnet (cant say how many times mine has been patched up) plus a few other weight savings areas

Running the 34.43s has got me back my record old Fastest Front Wheel Car EVER to go up the Val De Terres Hillclimb which i am chuffed to bits about but now i am aiming for a 33s time, if i can get this in a 205 there will be some jaws hitting the tarmac big time as people almost fall over now when i tell them my times

So hope that gave a little update, sorry it has been very rushed but i have been up since 5.30am cramming for my exam so am knackered and need sleep.

Will keep the updates coming now im back and must say very glad to have the time again to re-engage with the forum

All opinions welcome

Regards

Simon

Andy Baker Camber/Caster Mounts now ordered and should have arrived at Gaz for the struts and spring top to me made to fit, ill get some pics up when they arrive.

Cant wait to finally upgrade that crappy front suspension set up i have been running for years and have a fully adjustable front end. :D :D

What spring rate have people found best fro Tarmac and Hillclimb events, im thinking 300lb but may get a set of 325lb also!!

I must admit I have no idea at the moment, I haven't yet used it in anger other than a few laps of Mallory Park, although this didn;t indicate any problems I'm still on 250lbs at the front, but now have 23mm bars and proflex at the rear. I was speculating at about 300-350 lbs for mine to match the rear more, until I have driven it at an event I'm not sure.

Just out of interest any particular reason you have chose to go down the Gaz Gold route

Gaz Gold and Bilstein were recommended to me as Gaz Gold have really improved from being a budget supplier to a high end motorsport choice.

And the struts are as standard 30mm shorter than my Spax RSX plus being shortened by a further 20mm will give me plenty of travel even with having to now mount the Adjustable Top Mounts from below the turret. Bilstein were only 10mm shorter than the Spax.

I do however also need to sort the rear, i have very little travel between the swing arms and the already shortened bump stops and to when these him the back slips and starts to bounce around the corners which is terrible.

I think its telling you its too low

I have heard of a 205 beam being raised up into the chassis, IIRC Stew Baker had this done on his, and Martin from bridgecraft engineering on his 306 maybe?
