Yeh that would be a good fix, thanks, however once this clutch is sorted I have every intention of forgetting my well tuned gearbox removal procedure as the twin plate should last a long time!!!

All back up and running now, took it for a test drive yesterday to disturb the peaceful island on a sunday afternoon, went very well and all seems good. Just preparin the pickup and trailer for the boat crossing then drive down to Sandy Thursday night ready for a full day on the rollers.

Should i take some sort of spares package for the car i wonder........

That's good news! :D

Best of luck with the mapping day, I wouldn't worry too much about spares, I should imagine Sandy is pretty well equipped! Just take it for a good shakedown if you can, make sure nothing falls off.

Every single bolt and even some nyloc nuts i applied plenty of carb cleaner to prep the threads then enough Loctite to hold them there forever so im happy the rattlebox will stay together, will give it a spanner check before i go though.

I need to ask Sandy if its ok to run my 8" slicks on the rollers because these are my race 15" revolutions wheels and they are much lighter than my compomotive MO 16" road wheels so i want the cars performance on the RR to match to the track as closely as i can

best to use whatever will stick to the rollers best, though I guess you dont want to melt a good set of slicks

They are being turned into (expensive) Tire Walls down the Kart track after the RR session anyway as they are 2 years old now, will give them a good rasp before the session. Just wasn't sure if there were any issues with using slicks on the rollers.

There's another £900 bill for me in March 2012, new Avon boots!!!!!

Just saved myself exactly 6kg just from dropping back down to 247mm discs, still have the Bendix calipers to replace the Girling yet so this is a big weight saving!!

I think more importantly to the performance of the car that 6kg is pure turning mass the engine has to cope with so can only be a good thing!!

The dyno will ruin those slicks, but if you don't need them then go for it!

£900 for a set of avon's? Your being raped.

Yeh they are just tire walls to me now so don't care what the RR doe to them.

And that's the going price for Avon's these days, well £800 for 2x 8.0x15" and 2x 8.7x15" and £38 delivery but that was 2 years ago so taking price hikes into consideration gotta be knockin on £900 delivered these days.

Way would you recommend?

Not going through BMTR are you? Contact Avon Motorsport themselves, if you need a contact number give us a shout I got a few mates that work there.

I take it that BMTR are adding a healthy margin then, would that offer extend to anyone else running Avon's as I will need 2 new fronts at some point for next season.

I believe BMTR add a margin, depends what sort of tyre as to how much they add. Avon Motorsport Directly won't reduce their prices, no matter who you are, they are as cheap as they can sell them. I simply can get a contact number if you struggle to find one for Avon Motorsport Sales if it helps.

I'd just assumed that BMTR were the sole outlet for Avon tyres and that you wouldn't be able to buy them direct.

I've come across people importing them in from the States as well, not sure how easy that is to do though.

Sounds expensive, plus what state they would be in when they get here!!??

i worry enough shipping them in from the UK cause my last set were even packaged up, just bound together with some parcel tape, anyone could be havin a bad day in a courier building and puncture one without me knowing until i fit them, by then its too late to send back!!

We imported a whole bunch of Hoosier tyres from the 'States, they arrived in very good condition. :)

Ive only ever seen a few sets of Hoosiers on the island and they guys have never rated them that much, not sure myself.

They seem to be considered the absolute best tyres you can get over in the 'States, probably because they're an American company. I know we switched from Avon to Hoosier tyres on our Formula Student car after doing simulations on both (which was much of a muchness tbh, as all the most competitive teams were running them anyway, we just wanted something to validate the decision!) and got better performance and significantly better wear rates.

They don't seem to be that big over here yet, but I expect that may change.

Thing is are they better for track use where temperature is a vital element and a pre-heat and warm up lap gets them that temp or will they also perform from cold for a hillclimb run?

Hi all,

Just arrived back from the RR session with Sandy, my word what an experience. Again must say a massive thanks to Sandy, the best decision i have ever made and the most worthwhile money i have spent so far to get over to the mainland and let Sandy loose on the ecu, it has apsolutely transformed the engine and i just wish you could have seen the ignition curves etc before and after, barely recognisable which is testiment to Sandy's experience and ability.

I have uploaded to my Photobucket account the final power run so please see the link below and let me know what you think.

Final Power Run

I am yet to test on the roads which i just cannot wait to do so will report back asap

Regards

Simon
