This sounds like the way i may have to go, thanks for your input, much appreciated

Ill speak to Godspeed and see if they can make up the bell with a circa 260mm rotor then get some of your brackets.

This way i can then, like you said, see how much i can skim off the top of your brackets and then machine down the rotor to suit

Just so there's no confusion we don't actually sell the brackets like mine, they were a one off I made for myself years ago. Happy to have a look at making some up for you of you have no joy with hi-spec though :)

Yeh i was going to get around to asking you very nicely if a set could be made :P

HiSpec and Wilwood will only supply brackets to fit a disc to 283mm lowest, so if i could get brackets from you at your 266mm disc size thats a lot less extra machining and re-work i then need to do

Ill drop you a PM when happy with the set up to discuss further

their brackets could probably be modded to suit a 260mm disc. Unless the calipers you're using are considerably different to mine?

look at escort ap racing calipers, im sure the lug spacing isnt significantly different and they run something like 260 mm, all in the hub offset I think.

stock escort were 247mm, cast iron ap's.

all under a 13"wheel.

It sounds like i have something that will work to be honest

I have emailed Godspeed to see if they could fit a circa 260mm rotor instead of 247mm to the 1.6GTi bell spec i have sent them

If they come back saying thats ok then the plan would be:

HiSpec R114-4 Calipers

HiSpec Brackets for 283mm disc to be shaved down to suit

Godspeed 2 piece disc (circa 260mm dia rotor, 1.6Gti spec bell)

At least this way with the bell being made to 1.6GTi spec and the brackets being for a 205 the offset will be correct for the radial caliper to disc, just the spacing will be off but that can be machined down to suit and then re-drill and tap the bolt holes

The hi-spec 283 kit uses 1600 gti offset/width discs then?

You need to find out the disc offset and width, they're listed to fit a 1600gti rather than being dimensionally the same I'd have thought.

Sorry Wardy but to me you are making this much harder than it needs to be, and I can't help but think you could still end up with a pile of bits that don't fit together.

Its not my preferred option

I am going to ask Godspeed if they could do a full package and see what they come up with

HiSpec have replied to say that their bracket for the 283mm disc would not be suitable to machine down.

Evening all,

How is everyone?!

Feeling ashamed and so must apologise for no update in a little over a year, it's been a tough year with some much bigger priorities and so racing has taken a big back seat.

2015 saw my final exams towards my ACCA qualification which I passed and so am now a chartered accountant, it was 4 years of the hardest work I've ever had to do with some highs and a lot of lows but all worth it and all for my family

With now behind me I have been pushing hard to forward my career and make the qualification pay, as most will understand this has required some very long hours but is paying off, again all for my family

2016 has now seen the birth of my 2nd child, who is currently asleep on my chest, a baby girl to compete the perfect family with my 3yr old boy growing far too fast

So on to the car, my aim is to transform her into something worthy of the mighty French events of St Goueno etc and so I have undertaken many advancements which I will explain in due course

Main goals are

1) drop into 600kgs (lots of fibreglass)

2) sort gearing (FD, ratios, wheels)

3) upgrade brakes (front and rear)

4) strengthen chassis (cage weld, additional bars, gussets)

5) improve aero (rearrange exhaust, under tray)

6) maintenance (new lines throughout, new fuel tank)

7) improved drive geometry (rear arms and front subframe)

Anyway that's enough to bore you with for now, pics to follow

Simon

Here's the first few stages of my upgrades, a full fibreglass front end, a new rear end, side exit exhaust and a new gearbox mount.

The plan is to smooth in the arches, wings, bonnet, headlight blanks and the NEW bumper/valance (taken from a Dimma kit with some tweaks of my own) into one single unit and then take a complete fibreglass mould of the whole front end, this can then be used to make my completely removeable front end.

It started with the extension of the 4" arches to a now 5" arch to accept the new 10" wide wheels/tyres and you will also notice I have made a substantial change to the bonnet with the creation of a cowl type look, main reason is that having my dry sump oil tank in the engine bay I had to raise the bonnet a good 2-3" and so to make the mould easier I raised the centre of the bonnet to allow the sides to drop back down level with the top of the wings..... WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS?!

The new rear end replaces the standard bumper, valance and arch extensions which had been smoothed and was very heavy, again the new rear end was taken from a Dimma but has had many tweaks to match the width of my non Dimma rear end qtrs (requiring a 2" narrowing of the bumper unit) and matched contour of the 4" arches. The bumper itself was hideously mounded and very out of shape so a lot of extra cuts had to be made to appeal to my OCD and make it look good.

On to the gearbox mount, I have always hated the very flimsy standard mount and with the engine being solid mounted it just didn't stand up to the job anymore plus I wanted to utilise the 2 fixing points on the Dogbox BE3 casing to make it even more rigid. This mount still utilises the original chassis bolts as these seemed adequate (FYI still to be powder coated)

The other main upgrade on the go is the side exit exhaust, the pics don't quite do justice to the angles required to move it around the underside of the car and out of the drivers side. The main idea of this was to lose the centre exit fitment so to allow a complete diffuser to be made underneath the rear end so this meant the silencer raises up into the area where the fuel tank used to be to allow clearance.

Other things in motion atm are:

Custom fuel cell (see the very out of scale pic) I was told that I had to move my fuel cell which was position beside me in the car (within the roll cage may I add) as it wasn't safe and so needed to be moved under the car, this will now be position where the old tank used to be but only on the left hand side of the car with the filler cap protruding into the inside of the car

2 piece front brake discs and ally 4 pot callipers, as previously discussed this will be the standard sized 247mm discs to fit inside the new 13" wheels I will be running, think we're fixed on the callipers and a rotor so the question is just around the offset etc of the bell and also the calliper brackets

On to the wheels, Revolution have a 10" wide 13" 4 spoke wheel and have the tooling signed off for a 9" wide which I want for the rear but these are not in production yet so I'm having to wait (however I need a 10" wide for the brake build)

The decision for the move to 13" had a few reasons behind it, 1) I wanted to move from 9" to 10" wide in the front and 2) my gearing has never been properly established, I requested the 4.4 FD with the Dogbox but this gave me a top end of 99mph with the 9x15" so I had a longer 5th made but it was too long as dropped too far off the power band so I requested a bespoke FD of 3.6 to go with 13" wheels but only to be told that Samsonas have stopped the Peugeot 205 Dogbox kit and will only support repairs and nothing bespoke, luckily for me as standard they also offered a 3.358 off the shelf and would supply to me, this was a little longer than I hoped but was in an acceptable range so I can go for the lowest profile 10x13" tyre (20 I think) to match and lastly 3) to fulfil my obsession of dropping into 600kgs

I have a few other BIG surprises in the pipeline but don't want to blab until I get then underway

All my pics are in my photo bucket at the following link:

I need to order some T45 cage tubing to add some more bars to my cage, anyone know where is best to source this from?!

Cheers

not sure you need that much width on the rear?

do you have a steel stockholder on your island and us your cage CDS or T45? not 100% if its wise to mix them, ask Colin or Dave.

Hmm i honestly couldn't say if my cage was T45 or CDS, i would expect CDS tbh

With regards to the rears, if im buying new wheels then why not take the chance to go wider and reduce the risk of the rear overtaking the front round high speed corners and also that inevitable de-acceleration oversteer (bearing in mind i have just removed a whole chunk of weight from the rear end with a new bumper/valance and also more material being removed)

dont lift ;):D

I know till he went for a full new rear end colin was on 15x9 up front at 15x7 on the rear.

I have found that is the better option although often requires several pairs of new under crackers during a meeting

Ill be on 13x10 up front and 13x9 at the rear so we'll see what works out best  (Colins set up isnt the bible ;) )

This was a little rocket ship before hand! Lots of exciting things going on there, sticking with the blue?

I'm especially interested in the brakes as a decent 4 piston set up under 14's is on the log term lost for myself. Will you be making the mounting brackets? And the bells?

Yes will be sticking with the blue, I'm excited things are now moving faster, have taken on a massive list of upgrades but it's everything I've always wanted to do to get it where I've wanted it.

I am sending my hubs etc along with the new Calipers, Rotors and a wheel to Allan at Bridgecraft to build the bells and brackets, quietly confident it can be done but will be very tight so we'll see
