you can do, but don't use too much, a bit of brake fluid wiped on will do the trick.

great ill give it all a go, thanks!!

I only use one port on th MS for the rears, the back left port then split the pipe towards the rear just after my bias valve then into the goodridge hoses then to each caliper

That'll do nicely for the front end geometry!!

Also think I have improved the rear brake binding issue, cleaned up the pad retaining slide in clip and also the surfaces on the outer caliper where the pads sit in as they had paint etc build up so perhaps was locking the pad in place and plus the right hand side slider rubbers were the wrong size and were allowing crap to get into the sliders and stick, looks ok so far!!

A little treat, here's 2 quick videos of a couple very short traction control launches (very hard very old front tyres by the way, the 9" slicks are a whole new monster)

Here's some videos for you from the weekends racing, first events of the season.

1/4 Mile Sprint - Very cold conditions, ie sleet and hail, testing the traction control, was doing 2.52s 64ft starts which is about a 10th off my normal but i hold this down to the extreme cold and also old tyres!! Also having to nurse the gearbox as i dont want to smash anymore synchros before the Dogbox arrives

Hillclimb - I decided to try my tyres the other way around (remembering the AVON direction marks) because normally i run the 9" on the front and 8" rear but these tyres are last years and so the rear 8"s had much more life left in them so i wanted to try them on the front but as you will see from the understeer i had this wasnt the best idea, changed them back for the last run and felt a big difference. Again also nursing the gearbox a little

Sounds great, what rpm do you launch at? And what times are you getting. It sound like very little wheel spin of the line and your gear changes sound sweet.

The traction control is still in testing as I'm not down to my pb 64ft time yet of 2.41s, those 2 hillclimb runs were 2.55 and 2.51s but I'm partly putting this down to lack of rubber off the start line due to the winter period, old tyres and 5deg air temp compared to 25deg in the summer months

At the hillclimb I tried 3500, 4000 and 3500 (TC shuts off at 38mph). 4000 seemed best but its changing into 2nd I need to master because you may hear sometimes it will hit the limiter before changing into 2nd as the traction control shuts off and so it will continue to spin on the limiter in 2nd loosing time

My plan is when the dogbox is fitted to try increasing the TC shut off to maybe 50mph which means I can control the spin in 1st and also 2nd up to that speed and the dogbox will allow me to change into 2nd quicker so not to loose any momentum and not smash the box to bits

It's going to take a lot of setting up to find the sweet spot but ill do the odd start without TC on as a benchmark for that day

Discussion......

- 2nd gear start (1.9 gears on mi16 FD)

- Full revs 7200 to break traction and get her spinning (full rpm as a first test and if successful then lower rpm with more control)

- Traction control

- New 8.7" slicks

- Well rubbered in start line

- 203lbft torque

What's the chances of it working well OR stalling due to too much grip and breaking something??

I'm concerned that even with a twin plate clutch and updated driveshafts that it just won't break traction and something will go bang

BUT

if it works it will give me a great start time just with the saving of a gear change let alone the useless short 1st gear!!

I always found i was slower when starting in second, even though i thought the same as you with out the gear change it would be faster but it never was. I did want to try a longer first gear as i currently have the 1.6 1st but never got that far.

I will follow your progress.

Ok so at least I know you used to manage it though, yeh the 1.6 is far too short for race starts, my dogbox currently being built has longer 1st and 2nd which will be great!!

So I have found that she can easily break traction in 2nd gear with my 16" road tyres just need to try with brand new 15" 9J slicks now!!!

So yesterday was the latest Hillclimb of th season and WHAT A DAY, it was perfect conditions.

I had new rubber on the front end, adjusted my front camber as per BMTR recommendations for Crossplys and used their recommended pressures, no dogbox yet though!!

My Personal Best = 34.12s, Class Record 33.47s

Practise Run - Missed 3rd up the first straight ended up with a 37s but knew straight away the grip was there with the new tyres

1st Timed Run - Gave it all but kept it smooth (the previous hillclimb i was trying far too hard and was way to sloppy which lost me a lot of time) got a 2.40 64ft time and ended breaking my pb by .29s with a 33.83s.

The significance of getting a 33s in my car may not seem much but when you see that Westfields, caterhams, bike engined single seaters, escorts mk2's, Evo's etc etc are getting 34s then a 33s in a front wheel drive is EPIC!!

Also this was my first 33s run which i have been striving for for about a year now.

2nd Time Run - Built up more confidence from not hitting the limits in the 1st run i managed a 2.37s 64ft time and ended breaking my new pb with a 33.66s, jaws dropped and heads turned, this is now .19s off a record that the club thought would stand for many years to come.

3rd Timed Run - Tested a 2nd gear start, revved to 5k, activated Traction Control and launched, it span up butthen died off and fell of rthe power band, so drove off foot to the floor in second and soon picked up, ended up with a 2.47s 64ft and a 33.76s time. upon looking at my split times i was .08s quicker to Terres House (anout a 1/3rd up the hill) which was very suprising with the lack of start line speed and loosing a tenth at 64ft......??!?!!?!? This means that by not having to chnge from 1st to 2nd saved me a tenth, just imagine if i got off the line properly.......i would be 2 tenths quicker taking me to a pb of 33.46 and a new record!!! And then the Dogbox goes in so i dont have to change gear like a granny saving more time!!

She is finally starting to reward me after all my hard work of setting it up and has stunned the majority of the club at the times she is getting.

BTW the record of 33.47s was set by a £50k Mk2 Escort with a Warrior motor, that kinda puts into context how well my little front scratcher is doing......!!

i have a video you will definitely want to watch just have to cut it down and upload, watch this space!!

Until you add up what you've spent on your 205 ;) and that 50k is a cheap mk2

But still, a very good effort :D

He did a 12.36 qtr mile sprint, im doing 13.38 so that shows power difference

And a fully tricked out BMW M3 EVO with 440bhp doing 11.90s qtr mile has only done a 33.89s second up the hillclimb
