Happy New Year all

Finally found some time to pop on here and say hi......

Winter Update as follows:

Last 1/4 sprint left the car jammed in 4th after the 1st run, finally got round to removing the box 2 weeks ago and found 3 smashed synchros, thats a full house for BE synchros.......bo**ox!!

Currently pricing up Dog Gears, so far Drenth has come up strongest (but waiting for them to confirm they can deduct VAT for me) if they can it comes to £2400 excluding a Final Drive as their kit utilises the OEM FD's so get myself a BE3 4:4 FD and happy days, however they have upgraded the primary shaft spline diameter to 21.9mm so i have to buy 2 new clutch plates too!!

Plus i have to wangle that sort of spends past a pregnant wife soon to give birth.....(its hard work)

Watch this space....

what price is reliability? ;)

depends on warranty...... extreme price doesn't necessarily equal reliability...... just gives that impression to customers!!

unless you have about 30k weighing you down there is no point emailing xtrac.

drenth friction weld dogs to their gears (2nd and 3rd iirc) and they unweld themselves and you loose all drive.

-and sadly 5k isnt ridiculous money for a dogbox... its about right.

AFAIK you don't tend to get warranty on stuff used in competition...

Not true... very few people give it but I certainly have used companies because of the warranties they are happy to give on there competition products.

i know this is going to sound silly, but... there was a chap on here i think who monitored the temp of his box, and realised his box failures were down to overheating oil, he put on a remote oil cooler to the box and didn't suffer any more failures.

Worth investigating perhaps.

sorry I don't remember, but he monitored he temperature and notice it would spike under heavy load. I think he went into why the sheer strength of the oil reduced Massivly beyond a certain temperature range.. That's a typical example of my memory remembering bits but not who or when or where...

what diff you do have? I just filled mine with millers motorsport 75w90 nano tech after some research and recommendation. Will be interested to see how it gets on.

yer opie say the oil is good for plates and syncros which is interesting, although other websites contradict it. But I have a good opinion of miller, so thought it most suited to prolong both my peugeot sport box and zf diff.

Plate diffs should get mineral oil and no synthetic oil.

And that's pity since the operation range of synthetic oil goes higher and you don't fit gripper to have an easy drive on sunday afternoon.

Reply from Johan Drenth re warranty and gears welding:

Hello Simon,

Motorsport and warranty thus not exist. We guaranty that our products are good and do not fall

in pieces after one race when use where they are designed and produced for.

The problem with welded gears 3rd 4th 5th you mention is from history. Since 2005 these gears

are electron beam welded and we have never seen these come lose.

Look forward to hear from you, for questions please ask.

Kind regards,

Mit Freundlichen Gruss,

Meilleures salutations,

Met vriendelijke Groet,

Johan Drenth

Managing Director

Drenth Motorsport Gearboxes. b.v.

Lol, well he would say that. They shouldn't be welded really, should be machined from one.

I believe KAD are looking to produce a dog box and/or make replacement 1 piece gears for the drenth.
