Hi all, sorry been a while since last update, will get one up very soon as had a few developments since last posts however can anyone help with the following question:

Will a 4:4 mi16 CWP which I have fitted in my BE1 be a straight swap into a BE3 box or do I need a 4:4 mi16 CWP from a BE3 box?!

(Hope that made sense??)

All be1 and be3 CWP's are the same, Only the BE4's vary, I'd stick with the BE1 box thou, Gear selection is better and closer

Ahh conflicting opinions as always

But i think i am going to transfer to a BE3 box and wanted to know if the 4:4 Mi CWP would fit straight in from my BE1, so sounds like it will.

Reason being is that my BE1 box has now become very crunchy when warm/hot and the last event of the year at the weekend just gone it decided to jam itself in 4th gear, the problem i think is the side to side selector arm (the one which moves a fork inside the box side to side which moves the other up and down selector shaft across the gates from Rev to1st/2nd to 3rd/4th to 5th) has become slack and the fork has either dis-logged or bent and jumped from the other shaft.

The BE1 box was on the cards t be changed anyway so this gives me the perfect chance over winter!!

Wouldnt mind some Drenth Straight Cut Dog Gears but would be expecting a price tag of £3-4k

Cant understand that price, or even £12-13k for Sequential

Material and production volume. Drenth also friction weld the dogs to the gears, which come un-welded and you loose drive... not a good bet really.

go to xtrac... you'll pay 35k for a sequential.

And their finishing leaves a lot to be desired from gearbox strips I have seen... burr-tastic.

Hewland are a lot cheaper for a fwd box. £9k + vat for the basic casing though you would need the bellhousing and other parts....

About the same as a Sadev box then.

Thats for their 'cheap' box. Theres the full on touring car one. I never bothered asking the price for that lol

£35k must be for Xtrac's 516 touring car box or their newer turbo one. They also offer a cheaper unit (the 416 i think).

BTCC current prices are about 35k, you can get old ones (406/416) cheaper if you no the right people.

you'd think so Wardy but they're rare as rocking horse s*it. Just over a year ago a BTCC XU 6 speed sc dog box went for £1500, hate myself for missing it! Managed to get hold of a Peugeot sport 5 speed with ZF to tie me over for the time being. I have a BE3 I'm currently modelling to produce a dog box. Side project and something to add to the CV in case I want to go from calibration engineering back to design.
