Cheers mate sorted!! Just prepping my Bendix calipers for the front end.

If you had a horrible spongy brake pedal and hardly any braking power what would say it was down to?

I have std discs on the back (think Bendix) and currently Girling on the front with drilled and grooved discs and green stuff pads.

Master cylinder (If I remember correctly) is plumed as the 2 front ports for either front wheels and back left port down to the rear splitting half way down to each disc then 4th back right port blanked off!!

I'm thinkin it's just the Greenstuff pads have gone old and hard and they are a fair few years old now

Any ideas?

With all of this fitted for the 21st July National Hillclimb i am looking at a further weight reduction of 18-20kgs, taking her down to an estimated 725-730kg.

Will be chasing the new suspension set up tomorrow from Gaz, this is a big upgrade for the next hillclimb so hoping it arrives in time.

It will be in the body shop next week having the arch repaired and boot/bonnet resprayed so once this is done it will give me a great opportunity to get some proper detailed photos of the whole build as promised.

Whilst fitting the new boot panel I thought seeing as I had the rear light clusters out i would weight them, appears they weight 560 - 570kg a piece, so while I was there I took the grinder, drill and sanding disc to each one an skinned them down to the bare bones, they now weigh in at 435 - 445kg each so shaved a 1/4 kilo off

A little anal but it all adds up :0)

They do pop up on fleabay from time to time at a reasonable price, but its more luck than anything else. Are you after manual or electric? If you are mod prod you don't need one at all, so is it urgent you fit one, at least gives you time to look around.

Well you say that.............(DEJA VU - Another debate about to start regarding regulations so fire away everyone if you can help)

I had heard that down the Hillclimb but then reading the Common Regulations for Competitors (Safety) - Section K and particularly:

K-3. A fire extinguisher/extinguishing system must be

carried on all vehicles, the minimum requirement being

that the system be charged with one of the permitted

extinguishants and be operable by the driver whilst

normally seated either by manual operation or by a

mechanically/electrically assisted triggering system.

I had not seen one which said Mod Prods did not need an extinguisher, please advise.

(Sorry for short post but dont hav alot of time to write)

Peter Lloyd rallying do a very reasonably priced 2.25 L unit which I have seen in most rally cars out competing.

http://www.peterlloydrallying.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=121_58_74&products_id=108

they do a few other shapes too http://www.peterlloydrallying.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=74&zenid=ae9ea35abbbb5de39d4e4e842c084b01 usually very competitively priced :)

Section S supercedes this Simon, so not mandatory

10.1.14. Fire Extinguishers – K.3.1.2(a) recommended

for discharge into cockpit and engine compartment.

Now my understanding of those 2 regs is:

K3 - States all cars must have a Fire Extinguisher of some size and form

S10.1.14 - Recommends that for Sprint and Hillclimbing Vehicles it is recommend that a Medium size is used

This to me is just the MSA clarifying which type of extinguisher they recommend for Hills/Sprints, it does not tell me that "a fire extinguisher is not required"

I do see what your saying Chris, Section S doesn't state a minimum requirement it only states a recommendation so as long as like you said the section S superceeds section K then i'll remove it!!

I think they need to write a new section in the bluebook on "How To Interpret Our Guidelines"

Its the one area that catches a lot of people out, you tend to read sections J & K first and then look at the specific section for your sport. In our case section S.

As I have always been told, section S takes precedence over all other sections unless otherise stated, so for example Section S specifically advises which parts of Section K are relevant for roll cages.

I have one fitted in mine, but as it is not mandatory it isn't mentioned on my logbook, as scuh no requirment for me to have it serviced at teh recommended service intervals either.

This is the heading of Section S 10 which is for Sprints/Hillclimbs, so it states these regs are in addittion to Section J but not Section K so as you said overwrites K3 with a mere recommendation of what they think should be fitted but no requirements.

Technical Regulations

In addition to complying with Section J all vehicles

competing in Sprints, Hill Climbs must:

Sprint and Hill Climb Vehicles

10. All Sprint & Hill Climb vehicles must comply with

the following, as a minimum:

Ill have to check my log book now to see if they wrote in a fire extinguisher, if its on the log book do i need to retain it in the car then??

Ive never had it serviced either in like 4-5years!!

Yeh i have a check now and check it still in the green, doesnt matter now it'll be coming out, might just take it down the hillclimb with me just in case they kick up a stink i can bolt it back in!!

Fitted my re-conned Bendix 1.6Gti Calipers last night, fitted like a dream, a straight swap and an instant 3.2kg weight saving.

Also noticed possibly why my brakes were poor, the Greenstuff pads surfaces has a serious mirror finish to them so would have had as much bite on the discs as a bar of soap.........!!

As long as it's in the green, it's fine? I hope that was a tongue-in-cheek comment, Welshpug!

AFFF after a few years standing will be next to useless if you call upon it (well, let's face it, it's next to useless in the first place). I would think 4 years is about borderline - I think I let mine go about 4 years before having it refilled once, but that was the longest I left it. This is your pride and joy, let alone your life if you get caught in the thing - after all the effort I put into building the rally car I was not going to scrimp on the extinguisher side of things! A refill is only, like, £40 (granted Lifeline are local).

EBC pads are s*ite, you'd do yourself a massive favour to get rid of them!

Granted if i were rallying then yeh i would have a full extinguisher system but with hillclimbing there is a trained marshal with a large extinguisher every 100 yards or less, by the time i unclipped mine and got myself free of my seat they would be foaming me up already.
