Yes mate count me in on those definitely, my top mount will be different to yours though wont it being 8v and running the XU9 top mount. I stgill need to sort some kind of lower gearbox mount, my first attempt failed.

Ah yeah the 8V mount is slightly different isn't it? Still, it should only be a slight difference and the gearbox and rear mounts will be the same.

Well let me know when your going to start it and i can always get hold of an old 8v top mount set up for you to work from. Be good to get some decent mounts in place

Thinking of weight saving ideas.........

Has anyone ever tried or planned to make a full lift off front, ie Bonnet/Wings/Bumper/Valance all moulded into one and held down with the 4 usual bonnet pins and then 2 more pins which the bumper slides over and then 1 at the bottom of each wing by the bottom of the door shut.

My brother used to have a Mini with this done and it was very light and also means you could probably shave off a few other bits off the chassis which parts used to attach to.

Also anyone got a FG Boot lid they would like to part with???

Im just not happy with my Hill 205 being 800kgs which will now be more with the Dry Sump holding the extra oil and the piping and tank etc, maybe 810kgs.......

I am almost tempted to remove all my hard work with the Undertrays and Diffuser which would weight in at probaby 25kgs, might go back to the drawing board and make a much smaller Carbon Diffuser with no side panels, just the basic diffuser body and strakes.

Looking good. :)

Regarding the lift-off front, it's something I'm going to eventually (planned for the space-frame project). I'd be very interested if you decided to go down the route of making one. :D

Regarding the weight issue, have a word with EdCherry and find out how he got his to the 725kg he has just announced in his thread.

Might be something in there that helps yours.

Probably by weighing it without the bonnet or bumpers (i.e. cheating).

Yeh sorry I've been having big issues, I think either myself or the car is cursed and destined not to ever work!!

You remember a while back I had that bad oil leak so the engine was removed and sent back to Mass, was found that a hockey stick seal was broken causing the leak so they repaired that and attended to the dodgy threads in the block for the sump bolts and also fitted my dry sump pan!

BUT they decided that they were going to fit my dry sump without testing the clearance as the dry sumo was meant for a MI16 with 88mm crank and I have a 96mm crank!! So they sent me back the engine untested and only to find it wouldn't even turn over a full revolution without the main bearing bolts hitting the baffle plate and sump castings!!!

So after fixing their f-ups AGAIN, I today finally finished fitting everything back and started for the first time, runs like a dream with great oil pressure from the dry sump so very happy as it also has no leaks woohoo

BUT BUT BUT

MY NEXT PROBLEM IS THAT FOR SOME REASON I CANNOT GET REVERSE!!!!!

Why on earth would reverse suddenly be unavailable???

It just won't select, I can get 5th so the selector moves and I have removed the lift reverse cable completely so there's nothing stopping selection but it's acting as if it's still there!!!

ANY IDEAS???

You need the lift up reverse cable otherwise you cannot open the gate to find reverse.

Not from my experience, you need the cable to stop it going into reverse, if the cable isn't fitted there is nothing to stop it dropping into reverse hence the lift to disengage the notch at the end of cable so it slots into gear

Yeah if you take the reverse detent out then you can always select reverse.

You haven't got the reverse cable and the breather muddled up have you? I managed this once as they both fit in each other's holes, you won't get reverse if you've got the breather in the reverse cable hole. Definitely worth checking!

I've had a few drinks now but I'm unsure what breather your referring to??? Can't think of the gearbox having a breather??

Like you said once the lift reverse cable is removed there should be nothing stopping it drop into reverse apart from something crapped out inside the box!!

I had to removed the end casing that encases 5th gear as it was leaking strangely but I can't of anything in this end casing that affects reverse as it's purely 5th gear init??

Hey wardy 18 i read with interest a long thread about you making your own rear spoiler (wing) and am thinking i want one for my rally car. Did you ever complete the task or did you buy one. I was thinking of making one but after reading the thread i've got doutfull. Hope you don't mind me asking cheers.

Hi mate

No problems with asking, I got the Dimma spoiler of another forum member (a bargain, thanks) in need of much repair so adapted into what I needed, nothing special just cut the ends off the Dimma spoiler and adapted it so it didn't need the extra section which bolt to the main body to make it look like it wraps around!

I'm such a dumbass….

Have found my reverse problem, ME, I have a BE3 gearknob fitted with reverse below 5th so this is where I was looking for reverse, completely forgetting I actually have a BE1 box with reverse up next to 1st. The gearknob came with the new shell so I stuck it on as my old one was in ruins, so I need to get myself a BE1 gearknob.

I think the stress has got to me finally!!

So engine ran perfectly, gearbox feels good, just need a good test run now :0)

I know I shouldn't, but that did make me laugh.

Yep my bad when you take it out you can get all the gears, oops!

Made my laugh as to why you couldn't find reverse though.

How embarrassing……

Only realised my error once I had drained the oil and removed the 5th gear end casing so I had lots of work to put it all back to exactly how it was!!

Anyone got a BE1 gearknob they want to part with?
