Exhaust Wrap

What sort of length of exhaust wrap is needed to do a 4-branch? I know it depends on the manifold but approximatly? When it comes to buying, is there certain ones to go for i.e width, thickness etc

Thanks,

Dan

I reommend not wasting the money!!

I wrapped mine and has been used for 2 hillclimb season, its now very loose on the exhaust and as i have had the engine and head in and out it had got damaged and doesnt take much to start breaking up, also when tryin to work down the back of the engine at any time just brushing your arms/hands against the wrpping causes massive irritation!!

Im my opinion its not worth the 50 - 60 odd quid and people say it can cause manifold cracking as heat is kept contained (as it should obviously) but people say this is bad.

Put it this way, mine needs to re-wrapped and im certainly not gonna bother!!

you will usually need one pack of 2 x 50m wrap. It usually just does a full 4 branch manifold.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I thought of doing it was to try and reduce temperatures due to the pipes and speedo cable in that area.... Will the high temperature have any effect on these?

I run some random samco hoses round the back there and they a bit short so come within a centimeter of the manifold, never had any melting issues, cable ties hold everything back nicely but i would suggest some samco hoses as they are going to deal with the heat much better inside and out.

Im not saying dont do it, just my opinion, others may differ as it is used very widely in motorporto of all forms!!

Good luck with whatever you decide

The copper impregnated wrap seems to be a lot more durable than the uncoated stuff, the silicon spray that you can buy also seems to help a lot.

One tip is not to wrap it too tight when fitting it and to soak it in water as it makes it much easier to work with as it produces less dust and doesn't slide about as easy.

Rather than using lockwire to secure it, try the stainless cable ties, screw fix sell them pretty cheap.

I've found by using the above you can get quite a good long lasting wrap.......its never going to last a decade though and as said earlier, working with bare arms near the wrap will casue iritation!

http://www.exhaustwrapshop.com/ are good for purchasing your wrap...run by competitiors for competitiors and would probably do a group buy
