Mi16 Ht Leads - Worth Uprating?

Recommended Posts

number2301

I'm looking to replace the HT leads on my Mi16 converted 205 and am a bit lost as to what to go for. Peugeot want nearly £90 with motorfactors being much cheaper but dubious quality.

You can also get uprated Luminition or Magnecore stuff for £50-60 which if they're any good seems like good value compared to the Peugeot stuff.

The search didn't provide any answers so is the uprated stuff at least as good as OE? And what brands should I be asking for from motorfactors to get decent stuff?

whats the diffrence between leads?

somepeople sell "performance" leads some advertise "8mm","10mm" some are copper some are fiber

you can get them made up for about a fiver each

is the a performance gain? are bigger leads better? what is the best? is there any "real" diffrence?

i would have thought that thinner would be better as there would be less resistance so more power would get to the plug

but even if you get more power to the plug its only going to burn the same amount of fuel

sorry for the hijack, but it might help

The standard leads provide a good enough spark, even if it could be improved (which is unlikely) 'more' spark would make no difference.

So from that it looks like either good non-Peugeot, Peugeot or uprated leads are fine. I'll see what the local motorfactor can get me.

Unfortunately as I'm finding out Mi parts are a lot more expensive and a lot harder to get hold of than 8v parts

We've got some Bougicord leads on ours, which I was told was original fitment

TBH there is no such thing as an uprated HT lead, its just marketing bullsh*t to justify them charging twice as much for the same thing in fancy packaging.

Good quality oe spec ones are all you need.

I'm pretty sure resistance within an electrical conductor works in the opposite way to which you stated and bigger cross sectional area = lower resistance.

To be honest it's like people have said, OE leads will be plenty good enough as i think peugeot would have got it right first time round.
