Brake Woes

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I've fitted Xsara HDi front caliper + vented discs to the front of my 205 with a 406 master cylinder doing the pushing. I have absolutely no brakes whatsoever. Bleeding the system and it appears to be 100% free of air. Only slight clue is that when bleeding the fronts, the flow of brake fluid down the bleeding tube leaves a lot to be desired, not nearly as enthusiastic as the fluid from the rear.

I've connected the front right caliper to the front right m/c port, the front left caliper to the front left m/c port, then connected the rear brakes to one of the back ports which blanking the second.

I figure that the front calipers may well be seized so I unbolted the wheels and both move freely and without issue. You can compress them with your fingertips once they're off the car. No fluid leaks either.

I'm quite shocked as they worked fine on my 205 XS to which they were previously fitted.

Any ideas? Hidden air?

I may be wrong but do you have to adjust the rod inside the m/c before fitting?

Master cylinder is dead. Leaking fluid everywhere. Oh well.
