Recommended Posts

I had to cut and reweld the downpipe to mate up to the gti6 manifold as its longer and at a different angle than the 8v manifold.

Im hoping after the weekend i will be able to crack on with the 205 as my mercedes is back in storage ready to sale.

Turns out front panel wasnt available!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway not too worry, ill source it elsewhere.

I have just bought another 205 gti thats joining the project!!!! between the two i should have a good selection of parts to complete the build and i think the shell could be better!!!

Its currently in silver although if it is kept it will be re-sprayed in the gunmetal grey.

1.9GTI engine runs nice although it will be changed for the gti-6 lump, and kept to go with the car if ever sold!!!!

ill get some pics up tonight of the new addition :)

Might be good if someone can move this project from the engine section to a more appropriate section as its more a complete rebuild of the car.

Got the roof swapped over today. Had a bit of problem welding as the welding helmet i used was a crap one and couldnt see much what i was doing!!!! got there in the end though.

had to use gasless mig wire aswell which is crap, but didnt have any gas left.

Front panels all welded on, Wings are gonna be here on tuesday :) just got to source a bonnet.

Then let the filler work begin.

Yeah they dont seem too bad overall.

The only thing ive got to play with a bit is the wing to bonnet gaps as they are quite large at moment. I should be able to bend these slighlty though.

Ive started gathering alot of new parts for the project; red stripe trims for mouldings & bumpers, front & rear bumper, disc brakes & pads, arb drop links, arb bushes, steering rack bush, track rods and ends, rear beam repair kit, rear beam mountings, handbrake cables, bootlid badges & braided brake lines.

body repair work will be finished shortly and taken into kynastons autobodies for refinishing. not too sure if i should keep it the same colour?????

Interesting read Nick!

I have a few GTi6's in bits, so really do want to buy a 205 to make use of one of the engines.

I see you are in Somerset also. Where abouts? I am in Taunton.

I would be interested at having a nosey at one with the XU10JRS lump in up close to see how hard it will be to shoehorn in.

I have just bought a 205 now, so am even more keen to see one with the GTi6 lump in.

When do you hope to have it put back together? Where is it being painted?

Wow. Paint looks amazing.

Great progress.

I would always love to build a car up from scratch like this, but I end up losing 1 or 2 bolts when I remove 5, so if I was to put a whole back together from scratch I would never have all the bits in one place
