Green Stuff Pads ,any Good ?

Recommended Posts

AusPug

Strange to see so many negatives on the EBC pads. I ran Greenstuff for road/track and they were fantastic, plenty of bite and no fade. Then I made the switch to Redstuff and they are awesome, especially for the money. A little vague when cold but once they have a bit of heat in them they pull the car up lap after lap with no fade and a rock hard brake pedal.

i think the general consensus is that EBC have good days and bad days. Sometimes the compound is good and sometimes it's bad.

I have Pagid RS4-2 on the back, great pads but not cheap at around £130 for the rears

I've used redstuff previously and currently using yellow. Yellow seem fine. The red stuff were on a more powerful car and worked fine, once they'd done about 100-200 track miles and had seen high temps though they were rubbish from cold. Still good with heat in them though, so for the money pretty reasonable.

The more expensive pads are better without doubt, you pays your money etc :)

Dunc.

Agreed ^

Had them on the front with grooved discs, the brakes would fade all the time and never really stopped well. Not to mention the brakes on the front would judder REALLY bad.

I ran EBC turbogroove rear discs and green stuff pads, never worked properly and the pads wore away in about 3months of using them.

The discs looked the same as a standard item, all the grooved and dimpled holes ground down to flat. The discs were glazed over.

I have green stuff pads with gooved discs on a 1.6 brake set up, excellent and never had any problems with tham at all!

I have had the things smoking and still they were amazing.

Sorry but everyone loves to slag these of but in my expereince they are excellent!

i had some years ago on my 309 road rally car and they were excellent, never faded. but i have used the bike pads in the past and wouldn't buy them again. Then again maybe in 18 years they may have changed the compound

Only thing I've HEARD about these is, apart shocking, is there just inconsistant. One set could be brilliant, another could be utter s*ite, I've avoided them because of that. No experience of my own, but I won't be buying them

.

Sorry but everyone loves to slag these off

thats because we have bad experiences with them. We are not doing it because we are following a crowd....the reality is they are a budget pad and their performance is comparable with that.

I have 1144's in the front of my 106, really like them for fast road, good bite, did pretty well on track too.

I also had 1144's on my EVO which were great on the road, not brilliant on the track.

Had 1155's in my 309 which were really good on track, not used them on the road but found the bite from cold on track was fine.

Now I have CL RC6's on my 309 (Brembo calipers), not tried them on track yet (they'll have their first outing in 2 weeks), but on my short test drive on the road they bite really well from cold. As Phil has said, I think they'll destroy discs. But the RC5's might be OK for your intended use.

A mate from work had greenstuff in his 182, faded within 2 laps at Cadwell!! Before this he had std pads and lasted about 4 or 5 laps at Donnington (hard on brakes) before fade. He's now got 1155's, so will have a good comparison on his next outing to cadwell in 2 weeks.

Basically, make from that what you will but I see it as this.....

If the braking system isn't particularly stressed in std form (light car, decent enough brakes, std ish power/tyres) then 1144's are a good all rounder. Anything other than that or serious track abuse get a racier compound.

Results from Cadwell....my mate loved the 1155's in his Clio. No fade and a good pedal all day. I personally was so impressed with my RC6's i would go as far as saying shocked, although it is a completely new brake setup so no comparison to my old set-up. I now have the best brakes of any car I've ever been in :)
