Be3 1st & 2nd Gear Syncros

Recommended Posts

JeffR

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with my close ratio gearbox that I'm assembling.

I've found that 1st & 2nd gear syncro assembly can go on the shaft either way.

Fitted one way, the syncro doesn't select 1st all the time, but removed and fitted as in (pic 2) it seems to select alot better.

Is the correct orientation with the straight cut gear (sorry, don't know its correct name) facing the 2 splines at other end?

Thanks

I deleted your other thread because this was the only one that had pictures.

Your 1st pic for a BE3 2nd pic for a BE1

So the syncro cluster was around the other way on Be1 boxes?

This is a hybrid set of ratios using a mix of Aussie 75Kw 205 gti ratios (1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th) in an Mi16 box. Could it be that this (gear) combination won't work with this syncro?

I'm no expert in BE gearboxes but I've swapped BE1 internals into a BE3 box and couldn't get the input and output shaft to seat properly in the casing, turning 1st/2nd synchro other way around was the solution and also the reverse idler gear.

Yes, it was Jim, I gave him the gearbox so he could strip it and document the process. That reminds me, I need to get in touch with him about some Xantia parts.

Miles

Teeth edge pointing up so it enguages with reverse, Mind you need to watch out as they all vary slightly and you cannot always see the differance by eye so you need to make sure you swap everything in pair's
