not sure it would worry me that much tbh as oil pressure does move around a bit especially when revs change etc. I dont have sound in work are you revving it or is it idling? Is the engine cold or warm?

The oil pressure should go up as you rev it are you running the uprated oil spring?

"O" upt some fuel in :ph34r::D .

The issue here, as mentioned in another topic, is that his pressure shows higher than it used to and now almost reaches the max point hen revved.

I'm assuming you haven't fitted an uprated spring, or you wouldn't even be asking this question.

Is the oil hot or cold in that vid? If cold, what's the pressure like when fully up to temp?

See below  .

Steve you may know, is the oil filter on the return to the sump? If so it may just be a blocked filter.

A pump does not give pressure :D . It is the restriction to flow that develops it. So if it is not the filter you could have a blockage at some point.

just to clear it up where should the needle sit?

cold idle

warm idle

normal running (eg on motorway)

As said really need to know the oil temperature to judge the pressure readings, does seem high if the oil has some heat in it.

Dunc.

My memory is a little hazy because I've driven my car so little in the last couple of years, but IIRC it's something like this (on a standard spring)

From cold:

Somewhere between 2nd and 3rd marks at idle, and increasing by approx the amount of 1 mark when revved (so going up to somewhere between 3rd and 4th mark)

When hot:

Somewhere between 1st and 2nd mark at idle (although we all get a bit panicky the nearer it gets to the first mark  ), and increasing by approx the amount of 1 mark when revved (so going up to somewhere between 2nd and 3rd mark). Ideally, if everything is in good condition and healthy I'd want to see the 2nd mark at idle and the 3rd mark or a little higher when revved.

Yeah, exactly, this is on my 8v, it used to read as you've said above, then I bought my 16v and didn't use the car.

The next time I started it, about 3 weeks later, the oil pressure now does this. The max reading scares the crap out of me so the car in the last 4 months has only done about 4 miles!

The video above shows the car after just being started.

And yeah it needs fuel, but as it's just my garage taxi it'll last a while yet!

whip the rocker cover off, see if its getting any oil up there, check the oil spray bars whilst your at it make sure they arent blocked up. IF you have enough patience then whip the sump off, check the oil pick up is clean and free from debris.

other than that, i dont think there is much else to say other than let it get to temperature, drop the oil then fresh oil + filter.
